- LCI-351 class Landing Craft Infantry (Large). Laid down 17 July 1944 at Defoe Ship Building, Bay City, MI; launched 29 July 1944; commissioned USS LCI(L)-1082, 23 August 1944 (LTjg. E.L. Klatte, USNR, in command as of May 1945); redesignated Landing Craft (Flotilla Flagship) LC(FF)-1082, 20 January 1945. Assigned Asiatic-Pacific Theater: LC(FF) Flotilla Twenty-Three (LCDR R. H. Brazeal USN), LC(FF) Group Sixty-Nine (LT T. T. Brooks USN), LC(FF) Division One Hundred Thirty-Nine, serving as flagship for LCS Flotilla Four; participated in the Okinawa Gunto operation (assault and occupation, 1 April - 30 June 1945). Decommissioned, date unknown; laid up in the Pacific Reserve Fleet March 1946; struck from the Naval Register, date unknown; earned one battle star; final disposition 'fate unknown'. Radio call sign NZSK. Page includes c.1945 Philippines photographs of LCS Flotilla Four staff aboard this hull.

- Population
- Ship's company (4 officers, 24 enlisted) plus LCS Flotilla Four staff; embarked troops up to 6 officers, 182 enlisted capacity
- Limitations
- Compiled secondary archive (NavSource citing Turner Publishing's USS LCI, Vol. II) - not a government primary record; construction/commissioning dates nonetheless match the independent Defoe yard build list and the NARA deck-log coverage start. Page itself records decommission/stricken dates as unknown and disposition as 'fate unknown'. Contains no asbestos information.

- Locator
- Defoe yard table, row '335 | LCI(L)-1082'
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- Defoe yard hull 335 is listed as LCI(L)-1082, a US Navy landing craft of 236 tons displacement, 158 ft, dated 1 August 1944, with disposition noted 'sunk as target 1956.'

- Population
- Defoe Shipbuilding construction workforce (1944)
- Limitations
- Secondary yard-record compilation, not an official source. The '1 Aug 1944' column date approximates delivery and is consistent with NavSource's 29 July launch / 23 August commissioning. The 'sunk as target 1956' disposition is not corroborated by any official source located and directly conflicts with NavSource's 'fate unknown'; a non-authoritative hobby compilation additionally prints stricken 13 August 1956 and sunk as target 2 November 1957 - the conflict is carried in gaps. Contains no asbestos information.

[4]U.S. National Archives, Navy Deck Logs records (RG 24, U.S. Navy Ship Deck Logs): batch-provided NARA index lists deck logs for LCI(L)(FF)-1082 covering 1944-08-23 through 1945-06-30 [other_primary]
- Locator
- archives.gov 'Navy Deck Logs Available in the National Archives Catalog' - LCI(L)-1082 absent from digitized list; coverage per batch-provided NARA index entry
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- NARA's deck-log index records Navy deck logs for LCI(L)(FF)-1082 spanning 23 August 1944 - 30 June 1945, i.e., from her commissioning date through the end of the Okinawa Gunto campaign. The hull does not appear on NARA's published list of fully digitized deck logs (verified against the complete archives.gov list - the only LCI-type hull on it is Kestrel, ex-LCI-874); the logs are held in RG 24 and are obtainable via NARA textual-reference reproduction.

- Population
- Ship's company and embarked staff during the logged interval
- Limitations
- Index-level metadata only - the logs themselves were not reviewed. Per batch guidance the coverage endpoints establish service in the interval and are NOT claimed as commissioning/decommissioning dates (the 1944-08-23 start independently matches NavSource's commissioning date). Deck logs of this era record operations/weather/remarks, not materials - they are a lead for ship-specific detail, not an asbestos record.

[6]Era inference built on: NavSource specifications block (propulsion/fit, sourced to Ships' Data U.S. Naval Vessels, NavShips 250-012, and the Turner history); GAO HRD-80-2 Navy-wide asbestos documentation [other_primary]
- Locator
- NavSource specifications block (propulsion, generators, armament); GAO HRD-80-2 product page
- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- As built in 1944, this LCI(L)-351-class craft carried a diesel propulsion plant (two sets of four General Motors 6051-series 71 diesels, twin variable-pitch propellers) and two diesel-drive 30 kW 120 V DC ship's service generators - no boilers and no steam system. Consistent with documented WWII-era Navy construction practice, asbestos-relevant materials aboard a craft of this type would have been engine- and exhaust-system insulation/lagging, gaskets and valve packing in fuel and water systems, electrical insulation and wiring (expanded in the LC(FF) conversion for flotilla-flagship communications), and deck/bulkhead coverings in accommodation spaces.

- Population
- Defoe construction workforce (1944); ship's company; LC(FF) conversion-yard workers
- Limitations
- Class/era inference only - no hull-specific insulation survey, materials list, or BuShips drawing naming this craft was located. The diesel plant means no boiler or steam-line lagging pathway, so the asbestos-relevant material scope aboard this type is materially smaller than aboard steam vessels of the same era. Does not establish presence, quantity, or present-day condition of any material.

[7]Batch-4961 search ledger (this record): NavSource Amphibious Photo Archive; ShipbuildingHistory Defoe yard list; HyperWar USN landing ships/craft roster; NHHC DANFS index; Naval Vessel Register; NARA digitized deck-log list and catalog; CourtListener API v4 opinion and docket searches on all hull-identifier variants; secondary web sweep [other_primary]

- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, museum or hazmat disclosure, or docketed case naming this hull was found in the public sources searched. CourtListener opinion and docket searches on 'LCI(L)-1082', 'LC(FF)-1082', and 'LCI-1082' each returned zero results. No DANFS entry exists for this numbered landing craft; the Naval Vessel Register does not cover a craft stricken in the 1940s-50s; final disposition is unresolved in official sources, so no post-Navy reuse or disposal record could be tied to the hull.

- Limitations
- Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - 1944 wartime construction is consistent with era-standard asbestos-containing materials. The RG 24 deck logs (1944-08-23 to 1945-06-30) are an unfollowed primary lead. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
