Federal yard table entry for this hull: yard hull number 345, marked 'N' (Newark - the company's second wartime yard at Port Newark, distinguishing it from the original Kearny ways marked 'K'), owner U.S. Navy, type Landing Craft, delivered 5-Feb-43, disposition 'To NDRF 1948' (National Defense Reserve Fleet). The 'N' marker reconciles the Kearny/Newark builder-location variants in secondary sources, and the NDRF note corroborates the Maritime Commission disposal transfer of 31 March 1948.

NARA holds deck logs for this hull covering 6 February 1943 through 30 June 1945 (4 logbooks). The coverage spans essentially her entire wartime commissioned service: commissioning was 5 February 1943 and the coverage begins the following day. The logs are physical/textual records at NARA; they are not digitized in the National Archives Catalog (no deck-log file units for this hull were located - the digitized hull records are muster rolls and war diaries, see ev-04/ev-05).

    Limitations
Log-coverage dates, not commissioning/decommissioning dates - the 30 June 1945 cutoff reflects the list's wartime boundary, not the end of her service (she served until Sep 1946). Log contents not examined: deck logs document position, weather, personnel movements, and observations, and are not expected to state asbestos content. The ship's own action report documents hull damage and field repairs at Anzio: a British LCT rammed her stern during the 22 January 1944 landing (hull punctured above the waterline, stern pushed in ~11 inches, deck plates buckled, stern anchor gear smashed); stern hole plugged by 23 January; on 26 January LCI(L)-221 struck her starboard bow (8-inch hole below deck, bow anchor ruined); 27-29 January she performed salvage duty pulling broached LCTs and pontoons off Red Beach and towed disabled LCT-203 for nine hours; 866 rounds of 20mm fired at aircraft during 19 alerts; no personnel casualties. Two collision-damage events and salvage work aboard damaged craft are documented physical-disturbance and repair events for this hull.

Grace Monokote fireproofing, and Garlock gaskets at the yard for the 1940-1948 window that covers this hull's Dec 1942-Feb 1943 construction.

Federal Shipbuilding insulators, pipefitters, and construction trades (1944 survey window; hull built 1942-43)
    Limitations
Yard-level documentation, not a hull record - the survey postdates this hull's February 1943 delivery by ~19 months, and documents insulator trades' work at the yard generally, not installation aboard LCI(L)-192. The survey was conducted by a manufacturer (Owens-Illinois) with commercial interest in the findings; dust counts are in mppcf (pre-fiber-count era). Does not establish materials aboard this hull, individual exposure, or quantity.

    Finding
The conversion yard's asbestos record is documented: a 1979 chest x-ray survey of 6,640 Long Beach Naval Shipyard employees (88.6% of the workforce) found 1,061 (16.0%) with asbestos-related radiographic abnormalities, rising with age and service length; the Atlas yard record documents asbestos insulation, asbestos-cement pipe, asbestos cloth, floor/ceiling tile, wall insulation, and sprayed fireproofing at the yard. This hull was physically present - drydocked at LBNSY for LCI(G) conversion circa June-August 1945 (NavSource photo evidence).

Yard-level documentation from 1979, not a hull record: documents LBNSY workforce exposure decades after this hull's 1945 drydock presence; establishes the yard's asbestos era, not materials aboard this hull or exposure of her crew. No ACM-handling record for the conversion work itself was located.

Flotilla/context record: sister LCI(L)-196 - same builder (Federal Shipbuilding and Drydock), commissioned February 1943, same Mediterranean arc (Sicily, Salerno, Anzio, Elba, Southern France), same LCI(G) conversion (July 1945 per her entry), same occupation/China service, and Maritime Commission disposal (November 1947) - documents the shared career arc of this Federal-built flotilla cohort. LCI(L)-196 appears alongside LCI 192 in the same Division 221 listing of the 1 May 1945 Pacific Fleet organization.

A sister ship's official history, not this hull's - used strictly to corroborate the flotilla-class service arc; no fact about LCI(L)-192 is asserted from it. No DANFS entry exists for LCI(L)-192 or LCI(G)-192 (candidate URLs in the LCIG volume return 404; logged in search_ledger).

No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or verified litigation naming USS LCI(L)-192 or USS LCI(G)-192 was found in the public sources searched. CourtListener returned zero hits in BOTH the opinion index (variants 'LCI(L)-192', 'LCI-192', 'LCI(G)-192', 'LCI 192') and the docket/RECAP index (combined variant query, count 0) - a completed negative result, not a blocked search. Secondary web sweeps surfaced no qualifying case and no ship-specific 'asbestos aboard' material of any kind (not even marketing listicles naming this hull).

    Limitations
Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - the hull sat squarely inside the Navy's asbestos-insulation era and was built, overhauled, and converted at documented asbestos yards. Undigitized deck logs (4 logbooks), the Lawley availability work package, and command-level group/flotilla war diaries are open archival leads. CourtListener coverage extends only to opinions and dockets in its index; settled/undocketed claims would not appear. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.

    Finding
CORRECTIONS to the Lynch memoir and a NavSource caption: (1) Lynch dates commissioning '3 Feb 1943' - NavSource, the Federal build list (delivered 5-Feb-43), and uboat.net all give 5 February 1943; the deck-log coverage also opens 6 Feb 1943. (2) Lynch says the ship 'returned from the Med in late December of 1943' - her own December 1944 war diary places her at Bizerte and Mers-el-Kebir still under LCI(L) Flotilla One through 23 December 1944, and she fought at Elba (June 1944) and Southern France (Aug-Sep 1944); the Med return was late December 1944/early 1945, a one-year slip. (3) A NavSource photo caption dates her Panama Canal transit 'March 1945' - her May 1945 war diary places her underway Key West to Coco Solo, C.Z., on 1-5 May 1945, arriving San Diego 17 May; the transit was May, not March. Lynch's memoir remains valuable for the unlogged details it supplies (Oran staging for Sicily; post-war itinerary Formosa, Subic Bay, Saipan, Eniwetok; decommissioning at San Francisco September 1946; Maritime Commission transfer 31 March 1948 confirmed).

Corrects a dated memoir against primary sources, not a material/asbestos claim. The corrected return window (late Dec 1944/early 1945) is bracketed by the Dec 1944 diary and the Feb 1945 Lawley availability, but the exact CONUS arrival date is not isolated (gaps). The 'March 1945' caption may refer to a different underway photo date interpretation; the diary governs.
