NavSource is a volunteer secondary compilation, not a primary registry - its milestones generally track official records but rest on the Turner Publishing LCI history rather than primary documents. Page verified live 2026-09-30 (navsource.net domain; the .org domain is dead). Contains no asbestos or material content. The flotilla sequence it lists differs from the NHHC 1 May 1945 organization roster (Flotilla Five / Group 15 / Division 30) - wartime reassignment, reconciled in ev-03; the flotilla commander's initials also differ between sources (M. V. vs H. V. Milton), unresolved in gaps.

Special List 44 inventories Navy deck logs for 'LCI(L)-336' with begin date 10/1/1944 and end date 6/30/1945 (single row, no Notes). These are log-coverage dates for physical records held at NARA, not commissioning or decommissioning dates - they document in-scope wartime service during October 1944 - June 1945 (overlapping her documented LCI Flotilla Five / Group 15 / Division 30 assignment). NARA's digitized deck-log index does not include any LCI(L)-336 logs (the sole LCI-type hull digitized is Kestrel, ex-LCI-874).

    Finding
The LCI National Association's account of the 4 July 1943 Japanese bombing attack on Rendova Harbor names this hull repeatedly: LCI(L)-336 was among the first group of eight LCIs beaching on Rendova's East Beach around 10:00 AM ('R to L: LCI(L)'s 336, 328, 335, 330, 334, and 329'), completed unloading of the 169th Infantry by ~12:30 PM, but - alone of the first group - 'remained stranded on the beach' when the others retracted; she was still aground beside LCI 63 during the ~2:05 PM attack by sixteen Japanese bombers that killed three LCI sailors. LCIs 332 and 336 'are beached on the starboard side of the LCI 23 and port side of LCI 63, respectively' in the post-attack photograph.

    Finding
LCI(L)-336 does NOT appear on the NHHC casualty list: the LCI(L) section records 16 hulls sunk (LCI(L)-1, -20, -32, -85, -91, -92, -93, -219, -232, -339, -416, -497, -553, -600, -684, -1065). Absence supports 'survived the war' - consistent with her documented Far East occupation service through 20 January 1946 and the circa-1946 San Francisco Bay photograph - but does not resolve her final disposition.

    Finding
GAO documented the Navy's asbestos era: 'although all ships contain some asbestos in such components as clutches and electric cables, most ships delivered in the last several years or now under construction have little or no asbestos as thermal insulation, which was the Navy's major use of asbestos aboard ships.' Navy insulation specifications were revised to asbestos-free materials in 1973, but purchased material meant 'some ships were delivered with asbestos insulation as late as May 1978.' Thermal insulation was thus the Navy's major asbestos use aboard ships throughout this hull's construction and service era (1942-46).

    Finding
A diesel-powered Landing Craft, Infantry (Large) built in 1942 sits inside the Navy's documented asbestos-use era; era-standard small-combatant applications aboard a craft of this type and period were diesel-exhaust lagging, engine-room thermal insulation, gaskets, valve packing, winch brake linings, and electrical insulation. As a diesel beaching craft she carried no boilers or steam plant - the boiler/steam-line lagging pathway that dominates asbestos exposure on steam-driven vessels does not apply, materially narrowing (but not eliminating) her era-inferred asbestos scope.

Class/era inference only - no hull-specific insulation survey, material list, work package, or builder contract located for LCI(L)-336. Names era-standard applications, not confirmed installed materials; the LCI(L) type's small size and diesel plant mean exposure surface was far below that of steam combatants. No quantity. Finding
No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or verified litigation naming USS LCI(L)-336 was found in the public sources searched. CourtListener was searched through the authenticated helper: type=o returned zero hits for 'LCI(L)-336' / 'LCI-336' / 'LCI 336'; type=r returned two name collisions (Aslam v. Dorochoff, N.D. Ill. 2007, other statutory action; WSOU Investments LLC v. Xilinx Inc., D. Del. 2020, patent) - neither names any vessel, classified name collision, not asbestos litigation. A supplementary LCI-type asbestos opinion sweep could not be run (fleet pacing budget momentarily spent) - logged as blocked, not a negative result. Secondary web sweeps surfaced no qualifying case and no marketing content naming this hull; law-firm marketing pages for the builder yard (mesothelioma.net, mesothelioma.com and similar 'Brown Shipbuilding asbestos' pages) assert asbestos at the yard without primary sourcing - excluded by source policy.

One supplementary CourtListener query remains unrun (pacing); core hull screens are complete. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
