NavSource is a volunteer secondary compilation, not a primary registry - milestone dates track NVR/DANFS conventions but this hull has no DANFS entry. Contains no asbestos content. Decommissioning date is 'unknown' on this source; the Berry-sale attribution is explicitly hedged ('probably'). Designation line carries LCI(L) -> LCI(R) only, while her own wartime documents carry LCI(G) (see ev-03).

Log-coverage inventory only: the dates are holdings coverage, not asserted commissioning or decommissioning dates (the 12/21/1942 begin coincides with NavSource's commissioning date; the 12/14/1945 end coincides with the end of her documented Occupation/China window). NARA holds digitized primary records authored by this hull's wartime command. The quarterly muster-roll forwarding sheet dated 30 September 1944 reads 'MUSTER ROLL OF THE CREW OF THE U.S.S. LCI(G)337' - certified by Ens. Paul Larson USNR (Executive Officer), approved by Lt.(jg) Harlan T. Moen USNR (Commanding Officer), forwarded 2 October 1944 'From: At Sea'. The Mariveles/Corregidor action report (letterhead 'U.S.S. LCI (G) # 337', received 17 February 1945, via CTU 78.3.8 / CTG 78.3 / CTF 78 (Commander Seventh Amphibious Force)) states: 'Prior to 14 February 1945, this vessel had participated as a Rocket Ship in several earlier landings in the Philippine Area, two of the most recent of which had been the landings on 29 January in the Zambales Area and on 30 January on Grande Island, Subic Bay, Luzon' - documenting that she operated as a rocket-firing support craft well before the formal LCI(R) redesignation of 10 July 1945, and that 'LCI(G)' was the designation on her own wartime paperwork.

    Limitations
Archival evidence of operations and crew, not of materials or asbestos. Designation caveat documented from the primary documents themselves: ship's own records carry 'LCI(G)-337' (gunboat/rocket-support styling) from at least 30 September 1944, while NavSource's designation line runs LCI(L) -> LCI(R) only - the formal LCI(R) designation postdates the field use. Task Group 78.12, consisting of the six rescue ships, departed San Pedro Bay shortly after 1700... began searching at 0621 on 26 October... In total, Baxter's unit rescued 1,150 survivors from the four U.S. warships lost off Samar' (Gambier Bay CVE-73, Hoel DD-533, Johnston DD-557, Samuel B. Roberts DE-413).

    Finding
A diesel-powered amphibious landing craft built in 1942 sits inside the Navy's documented asbestos-use era. Era-standard asbestos applications aboard a craft of this type and period were engine and exhaust lagging around the GM diesel plant, gaskets and valve packing in machinery and piping systems, electrical insulation, and interior joiner/deck covering materials in accommodation spaces. As a diesel craft she carried no boilers or steam turbines - the boiler/turbine lagging pathway of steam vessels does not apply; exposure relevance concentrates in the machinery spaces and habitability joiner work, consistent with the documented diesel-amphibious pattern for the LST class (see class-f lst-1-class profile).

CORRECTION / COLLISION: The DANFS entry for the salvage vessel USS Weight (ARS-35) records that at Naples in early January 1944 Weight 'freed the port screw of the large infantry landing craft LCI(L)-337.' This cannot be USS LCI(L)-337 of this record: NavSource's campaign table and photographic record place this hull offloading Marines at Cape Gloucester, New Britain, on 26 December 1943 - days before the Naples event and an impossible transit apart. The Royal Navy operated same-numbered Lend-Lease LCI(L)s in the Mediterranean (e.g., HMS LCI(L)-5, HM LCI(L)-10 documented by NHHC/USCG pages), so the Weight reference most plausibly names a British-manned LCI(L) carrying the same number, or contains a number transcription error. It is logged so the Naples service is not attributed to this hull.
