    Limitations
Secondary compilation crediting the Turner Publishing LCI history, not an official Navy record. The assignment sentence on this page carries a template slip reading 'LCI(L)-351' - read as referring to this hull's page subject (352). Does not document the period to which the Flotilla 14/Group 42/Division 84 assignment applied (the NHHC 1 May 1945 organization table shows Flotilla 23/Group 67/Division 133 (M) instead - see ev-02). Official NHHC order-of-battle table as of 1 May 1945 names this hull: under LANDING CRAFT FLOTILLAS, PACIFIC FLEET - LCI Flotilla Twenty-Three, LCI Group 67 (ComLCIGrp 67 Lt. Cdr. A. H. Conners USNR), LCI Division 133 (M), the row 'LCI 352' is commanded by Lt. R. B. Sadtler (USNR); division marked '(M)' consistent with the mortar conversion completed 30 April 1945. A one-day snapshot dated 1 May 1945; organization shown is the mortar-type assignment and does not document the earlier LCI(G)/LCI(L) units claimed by NavSource (Flotilla 14/Group 42/Division 84 (G)) - the two are consistent with a flotilla reorganization tied to the April 1945 mortar conversion but the NavSource assignment's period is undocumented. CO listed as Lt. R. B. Sadtler vs NavSource's LT P. B. Sadtler - unresolved initial-letter conflict carried in gaps. Finding
NARA's logbook finding aid inventories Navy deck logs for this hull under the line 'LCI(L)(M)-352', date span May 18, 1943 - June 30, 1945, 4 logbooks. The span begins on the commissioning date recorded by NavSource and runs through the end of the 1945 fiscal year, documenting in-scope wartime service; these are log-coverage dates, not commissioning/decommissioning evidence in themselves. The logbooks themselves are textual records (not located in digitized NARA holdings - the hull does not appear on the NARA 'Navy Deck Logs Available in the National Archives Catalog' list).

A finding aid, not the records themselves: it establishes that deck logs for this hull covering 1943-05-18 to 1945-06-30 existed in NARA custody as of the list's compilation, nothing about their content. Wartime deck-log coverage ends 1945-06-30; later service (postwar, decommissioning, disposal) is outside the logged span. Finding
Firsthand crew account naming this hull: Stanley Richard Williams enlisted 1944 at 17, attended 'Admiral Nimitz's Private Signal School' at Pearl Harbor, and was assigned to the mortar ship USS LCI(M)-352 as signalman responsible for communicating with ground forces and other ships. Per the museum annotation, USS LCI(M)-352 'provided close support for the Marines as they made landings on Iwo Jima and Okinawa'; Williams witnessed USS Longshaw (DD-559) ground on a reef and his ship was ordered to assist rescue, during which LCI(M)-352 'was hit but survived with only a few fatalities'; he recalled five kamikaze attempts on the ship, all failing. He was at Pearl Harbor preparing for the invasion of Japan when the atomic bombs were dropped, and was discharged in 1946.

Association newsletter compiling firsthand crew recollection, not an official action report; 'flagship for the gunboats' and the casualty roster are association-compiled and unverified against Navy records. Finding
The NRHP nomination for USS LCI-713 - a same-type Landing Craft Infantry (Large) built at the same George Lawley & Sons Neponset yard - documents the type's construction: designed for rapid assembly-line production by the Bureau of Ships (initial designs May 1942), constructed entirely of welded steel plate, flat hull for beaching. It identifies George Lawley & Son as the oldest of the ten LCI-contract yards (founded 1866, built 160 LCIs and 47 LCS vessels, closed 1945) and explains the hull-group division: LCI(L) hulls 1-350 were 'square conns' with the original square conning tower; hulls 351 onward - including this hull - carried the round conning tower. The document contains no mention of asbestos, insulation, or lagging.
