- Finding
- NARA's ship-numbers deck-log inventory lists 'LCI(L)(G)-366' with log coverage 8/17/1943 - 10/31/1945 (PDF page 17). This documents that Navy deck logs for this hull covering her entire in-scope wartime service - commissioning day forward through late October 1945 - are physically held in the National Archives (RG 24, College Park). The logs are the primary source behind the association-published deck-log excerpt and the authoritative route to day-level positions, casualties, and equipment/engineering notes.

- Log-coverage dates, not commissioning/decommissioning dates - the 8/17/1943 start coincides with NavSource's commissioning date, but coverage ending 10/31/1945 leaves the ~7 months before the 23 May 1946 State Department transfer undocumented in this inventory. The listing proves the logs exist at NARA; it does not establish that the logs' contents have been read for this record beyond the published excerpt, and digitization status in the National Archives Catalog could not be verified (catalog API is JS-rendered - see search_ledger).

- The NUC citation commends LCI(G) Flotilla Three 'for outstanding heroism in action in support of amphibious landings on enemy Japanese-held Kwajalein and Eniwetok Atolls in the Marshall Islands, and on Saipan, Guam and Tinian in the Marianas, from January 31 to July 28, 1944,' describing rocket and gunfire delivered at perilously close range and 'serious damage under heavy Japanese gunfire' with 'numerous casualties.' The attached ship list explicitly names 'LCI(G)'s 77, 78, 79, 80, 81, 82, 345, 346, 347, 348, 365, 366, 371, 372, 373, 437-463, 470, 725, 726' - this hull is a named citation recipient, period 31 January-28 July 1944.

- Publishes a verbatim deck-log excerpt for this hull: Sunday 1 April 1945, '0004 Patrolling due East and West, North of Kiese Shima ... 0034 Bow lookouts report reef dead ahead - 0035 All engines full astern - 0038 Aground on reef: L. 127 35' E, Lat 26 16' N ... 0128 General Quarters - 0200 Secured engines - 0205 Dinghy sent to LCI 440, standing off reef ... 0245 Stern anchor cable secured to LCI 440 - 0250 LCI 440 taking strain on cable and awaiting flood tide ... 0340 Cmdr Starkus and Lt(jg) Seivert left this vessel for LCI 440.' Establishes that on Okinawa invasion morning the ship grounded on a reef north of Kiese Shima (Kerama Retto) at 26 16' N, 127 35' E and was pulled off by LCI(G)-440 at flood tide. The accompanying career summary states she was built summer 1943 at George Lawley & Sons, Neponset; served at Kwajalein and Eniwetok before gunboat conversion in Hawaii June 1944; took a direct Japanese mortar hit off Guam 24 July 1944 ('killing three instantly and two later, wounding eleven and destroying two of the 40mm guns'); then after repairs served at Leyte, Lingayen, and Okinawa.

The casualty figure here (5 dead, 11 wounded) conflicts on wounded count with the association's other published account (13 wounded - see ev-06 and gaps). - Detailed reconstruction of the 24 July 1944 action: on W-Day 21 July the eight LCI(G)s of Division Fifteen led the first assault wave into Agat Beach, Guam - left flank flagship LCI(G)-365 with 366, 439, 440; 365 took nine direct hits (7 KIA) and withdrew. On 24 July the gunboats ran a deliberate strafing line between Neye Island and Palagi Rock to expose the hidden Japanese battery; 439 was hit first (2 KIA, 13 wounded), then 'as the 366 reached the point of fire, it was also hit. Five sailors were killed and 13 wounded' before LCI(G)-440's skipper turned out of range and Navy spotter planes destroyed the position. The association's KIA roll (Elsie Item No. 109) names the five LCI(G)-366 dead at 'SWPA Guam 7/24/1944': William J. Barry, James F. McWatty Sr., Carmelo R. Sidoti, Richard C. Steyer, Robert W. Unger - corroborating the 5-fatality count in ev-05.

- Limitations
- Association publication blending the LCI(G)-365 official action report with veteran interviews (eyewitness GM2/c Adolph Brusig aboard 366) - ship-specific and detailed but not itself a government record; the underlying action reports are the NARA A16-3 series (a sibling report for LCI(G)-365 is cataloged at NARA College Park via Digital Pasifik). Wounded count conflicts with Elsie Item No. 117 (13 vs 11 - see gaps); the 5-KIA figure is consistent across all three association sources.

- asbestos_application
- Finding
- A welded-steel, diesel-powered landing craft built mid-1943 sits inside the Navy's documented asbestos-use era; era-standard applications aboard a craft of this type and period were engine exhaust and muffler lagging, machinery insulation, gaskets, valve packing, and electrical insulation in the confined hull volume. As a diesel craft she carried no boilers or steam lines - the boiler/turbine lagging pathway of steam vessels does not apply - but the small-ship confined-space exposure dynamic (maintenance disturbance of lagging, gasket and packing work in the engine spaces) applies.

- Finding
- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, material list, hazmat disclosure, or litigation naming USS LCI(L)-366 / LCI(G)-366 was found in the public sources searched (see search_ledger). CourtListener returned zero results for 'LCI-366' and 'LCI(G)-366' in opinions and for 'LCI-366', 'LCI(L)-366', and 'LCI(G)-366' in dockets; remaining redundant spelling variants were deferred by the fleet request pacer - logged, not treated as searched. Secondary web sweeps surfaced no qualifying case; the only 'asbestos aboard' material is law-firm marketing listicle content asserting asbestos without primary sourcing - excluded by source policy. DANFS has no entry for this hull (NHHC 404); NVR has no entry (disposed 1946, predates coverage).

- Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - WWII small-craft construction routinely used the era applications noted in ev-08, and no survey would ever have been performed on a 1946-disposed landing craft. The NARA deck logs (ev-02) and the A16-3 action-report series are the undigitized primary leads. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
