Earned five battle stars plus the Navy Unit Commendation as a member of LCI(G) Flotilla 3 (31 January-28 July 1944), for occupation of Kwajalein and Eniwetok Atolls (Marshalls) and capture/occupation of Saipan, Guam and Tinian (Marianas). - New Jersey Shipbuilding construction trades (Aug-Sep 1943); crew (4-5 officers, 24-65 enlisted, 1943-46); embarked troops (up to 188 in LCI(L) configuration)
- Limitations
- NavSource is a volunteer secondary compilation, not a primary registry - its own source line credits 'USS LCI "Landing Craft Infantry", Vol. II (Turner Publishing, 1995)'. Milestone dates corroborated where possible (shipbuildinghistory.com, NARA war diaries/action reports). The Navy Unit Commendation is a unit award to LCI(G) Flotilla 3 - it does not by itself establish this hull's physical presence at each named operation. Decommission and strike dates are explicitly unknown in the source. Contains no asbestos content.

- Finding
- Shipbuilding-history compilation corroborates: New Jersey Shipbuilding was an LCI assembly-line yard on Arthur Kill at Barber, N.J. (community absorbed into Perth Amboy, now called Maurer); yard management taken over by Todd Shipyards in 1942 at the Navy's request; closed after the war. The yard's hull table lists LCI(L) 462, US Navy, delivered September 1943, struck 1946 - providing a strike year that NavSource leaves 'date unknown.'

- Limitations
- Secondary compilation, not a primary registry - corroborates NavSource where they overlap and supplies a strike year (1946) that should still be reconciled against official records. Yard history establishes builder context only; no asbestos or material content for the yard or the hull.

- Finding
- Special List 44 lists deck logs for this hull under the composite designation LCI(L)(G)-462: date span of logbooks 'Sept. 16, 1943-June 30, 1945', 4 logbooks. The start date coincides with the commissioning date (16 September 1943). The listing confirms wartime deck logs exist at the National Archives covering commissioning through mid-1945 - the period including all five battle-starred campaigns except the close of the Okinawa operation (which ran to 14 June 1945, within coverage).

- Limitations
- Index listing, not the records themselves - the 4 logbooks are held at NARA (RG 24) and are not publicly digitized. Coverage ends 30 June 1945; log coverage for July 1945 through decommissioning is not in this listing and its location is unverified. The LCI(L)(G) composite heading reflects the hull's mid-service redesignation. Index pages are a mirror scan of the NARA publication; content verified against the scan itself. No asbestos content.

- Finding
- The National Archives Catalog holds digitized primary records for this hull (Fold3 collaboration scans, unrestricted): muster rolls; monthly war diaries covering June-October 1944; and the ship's own action reports for the Leyte assault (20-21 October 1944), the Lingayen Gulf amphibious assault (9 January 1945), the Kerama Retto invasion (26-27 March 1945), and the Okinawa Gunto occupation (26 March-13 June 1945). COM LCI(G) Flotilla 3 war diaries for June-July 1945 are also digitized. These constitute official ship-generated documentation of the hull's operations.

- Archival lead: catalog metadata and digital objects verified via catalog.archives.gov search API; individual page images not examined line-by-line. War diaries and action reports are operational records - none is an asbestos, material, or medical record; any material references (e.g., battle-damage repairs) would need page-level review. Muster rolls document personnel aboard, not exposures. Deck logs per se (ev-03) remain undigitized.

- asbestos_application
- Finding
- A welded-steel diesel-powered landing craft built in 1943 sits inside the documented WWII Navy asbestos-use era. Era-standard asbestos applications aboard a vessel of this type and period were limited by the plant type: no boilers or steam turbines means no boiler/turbine lagging pathway; the applicable era-standard applications are diesel exhaust lagging, machinery insulation, gaskets, valve packing, and electrical insulation. The 1944 LCI(G) conversion (added 40mm guns and MK7 rocket launchers per NavSource spec block) is an era yard event aboard this hull.

- New Jersey Shipbuilding construction trades (1943); crew (1943-46); conversion-yard trades (LCI(G) conversion, 1944); disposal/shipbreaking personnel (post-1946 sale)
- Limitations
- Class/era inference only - no hull-specific insulation survey, material list, conversion work package, or shipyard asbestos record located for this hull or for New Jersey Shipbuilding (which has no Atlas shipyards.json entry and no located NIOSH/OSHA record). Names era-standard applications, not confirmed installed materials; no quantity; the small diesel plant implies materially less insulation surface than steam combatants. Does not establish individual exposure.

- Finding
- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or docketed case naming LCI(L)-462 / LCI(G)-462 was found in the public sources searched (see search_ledger). CourtListener returned zero hits on both the opinion (type=o) and docket (type=r) indexes for hyphenated variants ('LCI-462', 'LCI(G)-462', 'LCI(L)-462') and spaced variants ('LCI(G) 462', 'LCI(L) 462', 'LCI 462'). Notably, unlike larger hulls, no law-firm marketing page asserting asbestos aboard this specific hull surfaced in the web sweep.

- Limitations
- Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - it is consistent with the hull's small size, diesel plant, short service life, and scrapping-era disposal. Deck logs, muster rolls, war diaries, and the 1944 conversion record are unexamined archival leads. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
