These are log-coverage dates, not commissioning/decommissioning dates - the hull served until 26 March 1946 but the listed coverage ends 6/30/1945 (a series-boundary artifact visible across the LCI(L) listings). The digitized deck-log index (archives.gov/research/military/logbooks/navy-online) contains no LCI(L)-520 entry - the logs are an undigitized archival lead.

At about 5 or 5:30 AM the 520 arrived at the line of demarcation. We were accompanied by our 14 rocket boats. Captain Lorenzo Sabin... had these vessels line up to our right, and to our left... at exactly 6:30am - I was in the conning tower - right next to the "cap'n" - as he shouted into a bullhorn - "go you, rocketboats, go!!!"... the whole coastline within our view lit up like a Christmas tree... as 15,120 rockets... exploded on the "Omaha" hillsides.'

    Finding
A 1943-built landing craft inside the Navy's documented asbestos-use era; era-standard small-combatant applications aboard a craft of this type and period were exhaust lagging on the diesel trunking, thermal insulation, gaskets, valve packing, and electrical insulation in machinery spaces. As an all-diesel craft she carried no steam plant - the boiler/turbine lagging pathway of steam vessels does not apply, and her asbestos-relevant footprint is narrower than a steam combatant's.

CORRECTION / conflict flag: the hull's Pacific unit assignment and several movement dates conflict across official sources and NavSource. Unit assignment: NHHC 1 May 1945 fleet organization places LCI 520 in LCI(L) Flotilla 35, Group 103, Division 206; the 1949 Coast Guard war history and USCG Historian's page say Flotilla 35, Group 104, Division 207; NavSource says Flotilla 35, 'LCT Group One Hundred Four, LCT Division Two Hundred Eight' (LCT is likely a rendering error for LCI(L)). Movement dates: Norfolk departure 16 Jan 1945 (CG at War) vs 18 Jan 1945 (NavSource); San Diego departure for Guam 26 Apr 1945 (CG at War) vs 20 Apr 1945 (NavSource); return-leg arrival - CG at War records Pearl Harbor 12 Dec 1945 then Long Beach 7 Feb 1946, while NavSource compresses this to 'arriving 12 December 1945' at Long Beach. Command: Navy crew relieved 10 Jan 1945, but Taylor's command date is 17 Jan 1945 (CG at War, NavSource CO table) - consistent sequence, not a conflict. NHHC org doc renders the CO 'J. J. Taylor (USCG)' vs 'John N. Taylor' in Coast Guard sources - probable transcription variance.

CourtListener opinions returned zero hits across five name variants ('LCI(L)-520', 'LCI 520', 'LCI(L) 520', 'USS LCI(L)-520', 'LCI-520'); docket searches returned zero for 'LCI(L)-520', 'LCI 520', and 'LCI-520'; one docket variant ('LCI(L) 520') could not be run - the fleet-wide request budget was paced at retry time (logged in search_ledger; not a negative result for that variant).
