[2]National Archives, Special List 44 (by ship number): 'LCI(L)-528 1/4/1944 6/30/1945' - inventory of Navy deck logs in NARA custody [other_primary]
- Locator
- sl-44-ship-number.pdf, PDF page 25, row 'LCI(L)-528'
- Finding type

- Finding
- The official NARA Special List 44 ship-number inventory lists Navy deck logs for LCI(L)-528 covering 4 January 1944 through 30 June 1945 - log coverage beginning on the commissioning date and establishing the hull's in-scope wartime service under the LCI(L) designation. No LCI(G)-528 row appears in the same inventory, so log coverage under the post-15 July 1945 gunboat designation is not established by this source.

- Limitations
- An inventory of log coverage, not a service record; the ending date (30 June 1945) is a holdings boundary, not a decommissioning date - the vessel was still in service and was reclassified LCI(G)-528 on 15 July 1945. The logs are paper records not digitized in the National Archives Catalog as of 2026-09-30. Contains no asbestos information.

I, 359th Infantry, per the XO enclosure) disembarked down a safety line in a 3-knot cross-current before repeated withdrawals under enemy 88mm fire; remaining troops unloaded into LCMs; returned to the Transport Area about 2000. Straddling 88mm fire caused casualties aboard flagship LCI-552; near misses on LCI(L)s 552 and 529.

[6]HAER No. AK-52, M/V Husky II (ex-USS LCI(L)-653), Library of Congress - documentation of a sister LCI-351-class hull built at the same yard and of New Jersey Shipbuilding Corp. itself [haer]
- Locator
- HAER AK-52 data pages 2-8 (builder history, construction process, LCI(L) historical context)
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- HAER documentation of the builder and the type: New Jersey Shipbuilding Corp. was incorporated in 1942 as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Barber Asphalt Corporation specifically to convert the idled Perth Amboy asphalt plant on Arthur Kill into an LCI(L) yard; hull and deckhouse sections were prefabricated at a factory 14 miles from the yard and moved to the ways by rail for assembly-line construction; the yard employed about 2,500 workers and was eventually managed by Todd Shipyards; the Navy's Bureau of Ships designed the LCI(L) with George Lawley & Son Corp. Documents the wartime industrial construction process for the class and builder of this hull.

- Class/builder documentation on a sister hull (LCI(L)-653, delivered months after LCI(L)-528); the report contains no asbestos information and its insulation references describe post-1980s refrigerated-hold conversion work, not original construction. No part of this row is a ship-specific finding for LCI(L)-528.

[7]NavSource specifications block for this hull (propulsion plant detail) + HAER AK-52 class/builder context [other_primary]
- Locator
- NavSource 'Specifications' block (propulsion, armor); HAER AK-52 (class design by BuShips/George Lawley & Son)
- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- Era/design inference only: LCI(L)-528 was built November 1943-January 1944, in the period when asbestos was a standard, Navy-specified material in shipbuilding. Propulsion was all-diesel (two banks of four General Motors 6051-series 71 diesels, four per shaft, with diesel-driven 30kW ship's service generators and twin variable-pitch propellers) - there was no boiler or steam plant, so the asbestos applications plausible for this type are limited to engine and exhaust-system lagging, machinery gaskets and valve packing, electrical insulation and switchgear arc materials, deck coverings, paints, and incidental fireproofing. The class carried 'plastic splinter protection' (bituminous armor) on gun positions, conning tower, and pilot house - not documented as asbestos-containing.

- Population
- Construction workforce 1943-44; engine-room crew (motor machinist's mates) in service
- Limitations
- Class/era inference, not a ship-specific finding: no materials list, specification, survey, or abatement record for this hull or the LCI-351 class was located. The all-diesel plant materially narrows the plausible ACM scope relative to steam vessels (no boiler lagging or steam-line insulation). Does not establish quantity, presence, condition, or any individual exposure.

- Finding
- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or docketed case naming LCI(L)-528/LCI(G)-528 was found in the sources searched (see search_ledger). NHHC DANFS carries no individual entry for this hull (consistent with DANFS practice for LCI(L)s). The vessel's fate after the 22 November 1946 sale is unknown, foreclosing museum-condition documentation.
