- NavSource is a volunteer secondary compilation, not a primary registry - milestones generally track official records but the page's source is the Turner Publishing LCI volume (secondary). Contains no asbestos content. The merchant-career portion of this page conflicts with NavSource's own photo-documented LCI(L)-530 page - see ev-09; no campaign or flotilla assignment is given for this hull.

- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- NARA holds deck logs for this hull: Special List 44 lists 'LCI(L)-570' with log coverage 3/15/1944 - 6/30/1945 - the coverage start matching the 15 March 1944 commissioning date and corroborating it. The hull does not appear in NARA's published index of fully digitized deck logs, so these logs remain an undigitized archival lead at Archives II, College Park.

- SL44 documents logbook existence and date coverage only - not log contents. Coverage ending 6/30/1945 reflects the SL44 collection's holdings, not the end of the ship's service (she was transferred to the Maritime Commission in 1947); later logs may exist under separate listing or may not have been deposited. Deck-log contents could contain material/maintenance references but cannot be asserted until pulled.

- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- Independent yard-table corroboration: LCI(L)-570, U.S. Navy landing craft, delivered March 1944, 'To US Maritime Commission 1947' - matching NavSource's builder and 1947 transfer. The yard page describes New Jersey Shipbuilding as an LCI assembly line on Arthur Kill at Barber (later absorbed into Perth Amboy, now Maurer), managed by Todd Shipyards from 1942 at the Navy's request, closed after the war. shipbuildinghistory.com's identical table additionally carries a merchant-hull trace: U.S. Official Number 265851, passenger vessel, built 1944, 'Later Empress of New York, World Yacht's Empress, now Temptress Tempesta' - confirming a surviving New Jersey Shipbuilding LCI hull in the New York excursion trade without pinning its hull number.

- Secondary compilations (Tim Colton's shipbuildinghistory and its navalmarinearchive mirror), not official registries - the tables corroborate NavSource rather than primary records. The O.N. 265851 trace is labeled '[one of above]' - it documents that a surviving excursion hull came from this yard but does not establish which LCI it was. No asbestos content.

- Government documentation of the LCI(L)-351 class design: Bureau of Ships standard design built for rapid wartime assembly-line production; welded 1/4-inch steel plate; two decks with the engine room below, containing four pairs of General Motors 6-71 diesel engines on two shafts with variable-pitch propellers; deckhouse accommodations, galley, mess, wardroom on the main deck; approximately 1,051 LCIs built in ten shipyards. LCI(L)-570 was built to this class design at one of those yards (New Jersey Shipbuilding).

- Limitations
- Class/design documentation of a sister hull (George Lawley & Son-built LCI(L)-713), not this vessel - establishes the shared BuShips design, not materials aboard hull 570. The HAER/NRHP documents contain NO asbestos information; they do not establish that any LCI's insulation contained asbestos. Note also that -713 exemplifies the post-June-1944 modified design (centerline ramp, cylindrical pilothouse); LCI(L)-570, launched March 1944, carried the earlier configuration.

- asbestos_application
- Finding
- A diesel-powered welded-steel landing craft built in early 1944 sits inside the Navy's documented asbestos era. Era-standard applications aboard a small diesel combatant of this period were engine and exhaust insulation/lagging in the confined engine room, machinery gaskets, valve and flange packing, electrical insulation, and deck coverings. As a diesel vessel she carried no steam plant - the boiler/turbine lagging pathway of larger ships does not apply, and total asbestos aboard (if present) would have been far less than on a steam vessel of the era.

- Finding
- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or verified litigation naming LCI(L)-570 / LCI(G)-570 was found in the public sources searched (see search_ledger). CAVEAT: CourtListener could not be queried this session - the authenticated helper reported the fleet-wide hourly request budget exhausted on every attempt; logged as blocked in search_ledger, not as a negative result. Secondary web sweeps surfaced no qualifying case; the only '570' asbestos hits are a name collision (USS Charles Ausburne, DD-570) and LCI-class marketing pages (asbestos-ships.com) asserting asbestos without primary sourcing - excluded by source policy.

Undigitized NARA deck logs (3/15/1944-6/30/1945) and any gunboat-conversion work package are the strongest open leads. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.

- DISPUTED DISPOSITION: NavSource's merchant-career chain for hull 570 (MV Siasconet c.1957, MV City of Wyandotte, MV Spirit of Miami, MV Empress of New York, MV Empress, MV Marco Polo; retired 2012, laid up Perth Amboy N.J. as storage facility, 'fate unknown') is essentially identical to the merchant chain NavSource itself carries for USS LCI(L)-530 - Siasconset (Hyannis Steamship, 1953), City of Wyandotte (Bob-Lo Co., 1974), City of Norfolk, Spirit of Miami (1979), Spirit (1980), Spirit of Pittsburgh (1981), Empress of New York (1988), World Yacht Empress (1993). The -530 chain carries specific dates and a corroborating photograph caption ('Ex-USS LCI(L)-530 underway in commercial service for the Bob-Lo Co. as the MV City of Wyandotte', credited to Bowling Green State University Great Lakes Vessels). Only one hull can have carried each name; the photo-documented attribution favors LCI(L)-530. shipbuildinghistory.com's O.N. 265851 merchant trace confirms a surviving NJ-Shipbuilding LCI in the NY excursion trade ('later Empress of New York, World Yacht's Empress, now Temptress Tempesta') but does not pin the hull number.

- Corrects a probable secondary-source conflation, not a material claim. Both NavSource pages derive from the same Turner Publishing LCI volume - the conflation may originate there. The Perth Amboy survival/World Yacht career may still attach to hull 570, to hull 530, or reflect merged histories of two different hulls; no primary documentation (USCG documentation records, MARAD status card) was located resolving which. No asbestos content.
