    Finding
The U.S. Coast Guard-led cleanup of abandoned Husky II addressed diesel fuel, hydraulic and lubricating oils, and deposited liquid wastes. The HAER account does not identify asbestos or asbestos abatement.

    Limitations
This is a documented petroleum and liquid-waste cleanup, not proof of asbestos presence or absence. No material survey or asbestos sampling result appears in the cited account.

    Finding
NavSource identifies this same physical hull as ex-LCI(L)-653, ex-LSI(L)-653, Avocet (AMCU-16), and Avocet (MHC-16). Its LSI(L)-653 spelling differs from HAER’s LSIL-653.

    Limitations
NavSource is a specialist secondary chronology; the original HAER is preferred for historical assertions. Designation spellings are consolidated here rather than treated as separate vessels.

    Limitations
This manual postdates Avocet’s 1955 final decommissioning and does not name LCI(L)-653, its LCI(L)-351 class, or a material installed on this hull. It supports era material context only, not ship-specific asbestos exposure.

    Limitations
The search is limited to the public sources and CourtListener queries completed here. The helper blocked remaining CourtListener queries under fleet pacing. An unlocated record is not evidence that asbestos was absent.

    Finding
LCI(L)-653 served in the Philippines during World War II and was decommissioned into reserve on 6 June 1946. The Navy redesignated it LSIL-653 on 28 February 1949, named it Avocet and redesignated it AMCU-16 on 7 March 1952. Puget Sound Naval Shipyard converted it in 1953; it was recommissioned on 9 December 1953. It was redesignated MHC-16 on 7 February 1955, prepared for inactivation at Moore Dry Dock in Oakland, decommissioned on 20 May 1955, and struck on 1 January 1960.
