    Finding
NavSource identifies USS LCI(L)-698 as an LCI-351-class Landing Craft Infantry (Large), laid down 9 June 1944 by George Lawley & Sons at Neponset, Massachusetts; launched 17 June 1944; and commissioned 23 June 1944. It places the hull in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater with LCI Flotilla Five, LCI Group Thirteen (group flagship), and LCI Division Twenty-Six. NavSource records later redesignation as LSIL-698 on 28 February 1949, transfer to France as RFS LSIL 9029 on 8 January 1951, later transfer to South Vietnam as RVNS Long Dao (HQ-327), and a reported 1974 sinking in South Vietnam under unknown circumstances.

    Limitations
NavSource is a volunteer-compiled historical archive, not a Navy custody or materials record. It gives no date for decommissioning, return to U.S. custody, transfer to South Vietnam, or striking, and contains no asbestos, insulation, condition, quantity, exposure, or causation information. The 1974 disposition is reported without circumstances.

    Finding
NARA Special List 44, the ship-number inventory of Navy logbooks, lists LCI(L)-698 with deck-log coverage from 1 July 1944 through 30 June 1945. The list identifies records held in the Navy logbook series; its dates are log-coverage endpoints, not service-life or commissioning endpoints.

    Limitations
Inventory entry only. The underlying logbooks were not retrieved or read, and the listing does not establish commissioning, decommissioning, materials, asbestos presence, exposure, or causation. Whether logs outside these endpoints survive is not determined by this row.

    Locator
NH 93777 title and caption returned in live NHHC search result; direct catalog page returned HTTP 404 during verification
    Finding type
    historical_record
    Finding
NHHC photograph catalog record NH 93777 identifies South Vietnamese landing ship Long Dao (HQ-327) as ex-French LSIL-9029 and ex-USS LSI(L)-698, photographed circa the 1960s. This confirms the documented continuity from the U.S. numbered hull through the French and South Vietnamese designations, notwithstanding the catalog's 'LSI(L)' spelling variant.

    Limitations
NHHC's search result supplied the catalog title/caption, but the direct catalog page was unavailable (HTTP 404) when checked. This is identity/designation evidence only; it supplies no U.S. service dates, materials, asbestos, exposure, or disposition information.

    Finding type

    Finding
Class/design context only: the NPS National Register nomination for sister ship USS LCI-713, an LCI 351-class craft built by George Lawley & Son, describes an engine room with eight General Motors 6-71 diesel engines in two banks of four, each bank connected to a variable-pitch-propeller shaft. The source describes a diesel plant and does not describe boilers or a steam-distribution system.

    Limitations
This is a sister-hull/class description, not a record of LCI(L)-698. It identifies machinery type but never states that any component contained asbestos. It cannot establish materials aboard this hull, quantity, condition, exposure, or causation.

    Limitations
Era-level scholarship, not a hull or LCI-class materials record. The article does not establish asbestos aboard LCI(L)-698, nor quantity, location, condition, individual exposure, causation, or legal eligibility. Publisher full text was blocked during live verification.

    Finding type
    historical_record
    Finding
No qualifying ship-specific asbestos documentation was located in the public hull sources reviewed: the NavSource hull page and NARA Special List 44 inventory contain no asbestos, insulation, survey, abatement, or hazmat disclosure; the available NHHC identity result is photographic catalog metadata only. CourtListener exact-name and hull-number searching could not be executed because the required authenticated helper stopped at the fleet-wide pacing limiter before sending a request.

    Limitations
A failure to locate a public record does not prove asbestos was absent. This result is partial because the mandated authenticated CourtListener exact-name/hull-number sweep was not completed; the helper refused an unpaced request and no anonymous or raw request was used. The result establishes neither presence nor absence, exposure, causation, or legal eligibility.

    Finding
Archival lead: Special List 44 identifies a deck-log run for LCI(L)-698 from 1 July 1944 through 30 June 1945. NARA's Navy-logbook guidance identifies the logbook holdings as Record Group 24 material at the National Archives; the hull was not located on NARA's list of completely digitized online deck logs during this review.

    Limitations
This is a record-location lead. Underlying logs were not retrieved and their contents are unknown; the large online-list page was checked for the hull but its completeness and searchability are not a substitute for a catalog/holding consultation. Nothing in this row is an asbestos finding.
