    Finding
NavSource identifies the same hull as USS LCI(G)-70, ex USS LCI(L)-70. Its history block gives: laid down 15 September 1942 at Consolidated Steel Corp., Orange, Texas; launched 25 October 1942; commissioned USS LCI(L)-70 on 24 December 1942; reclassified Landing Craft Infantry (Guns) LCI(G)-70 on 15 June 1944; decommissioned in 1946; struck 26 February 1946; and sold 3 December 1946, fate unknown. The specification block identifies a diesel plant: two sets of four General Motors 6051-series 71 engines, four per shaft, with single General Motors main-reduction gears and twin variable-pitch propellers, rated 2,320 shp.

    Limitations
This ship-history/archive page documents identity, milestones, disposition, and stated machinery specifications only. It does not identify asbestos-containing material, establish its presence aboard this hull, establish exposure or causation, or verify the crew figures under the DANFS/NHHC-only crew rule.

    Finding type

    Finding
NARA Special List 44, by ship numbers, lists LCI(G)-70 with Navy log coverage from 1 January 1945 through 30 June 1945.

    1945-01-01 to 1945-06-30
    Limitations
This is a NARA holdings index, not the logs themselves. The endpoints are log coverage and must not be treated as commissioning, redesignation, decommissioning, or exposure dates. The log content was not examined and this row establishes no asbestos finding.

    Finding
GAO's 1979 review of Navy efforts to protect workers from asbestos exposure states that it reviewed use of asbestos in Navy ships and describes Navy 1975 and 1979 policies governing removal and selective replacement of asbestos insulation.

    1975-1979 policies; report published 1979
    Population
Navy shipyard workers and Navy ships reviewed by GAO
    Limitations
Navy-wide, 1975/1979 shipyard-policy context only; it does not name LCI(L)-70/LCI(G)-70, identify any product aboard, establish asbestos presence, quantify material, establish individual exposure or causation, or establish legal eligibility. Direct Studio-side retrieval of the official report/product page returned HTTP 403; the live official search result was used to verify the product-page summary.

Authenticated helper outputs cl-uss-lcil70-hull-opinions.json and cl-uss-lcil70-hull-dockets.json: count 0
    Finding type
    historical_record
    Finding
Authenticated CourtListener API v4 searches for the exact hull-number form "LCI-70" returned zero opinion results and zero docket results. No qualifying asbestos litigation was located from those completed queries.

    CourtListener indexes searched 2026-09-30
    Limitations
A zero-result search is not proof that no litigation exists. The two required exact-name queries for "USS LCI(L)-70" were pacing-blocked and returned no JSON, so this is a hull-number-only negative finding and the exact-name search remains incomplete. Search access was authenticated through the required helper; no anonymous or v3 request was made.

  6. [6]Negative research finding based on the documented source sweep: NARA deck-log holdings index, NavSource hull archive, official GAO context search, and authenticated CourtListener hull-number search [other_primary]
    Locator
Search ledger entries sl-uss-lci-l-70-lcil70-01 through -06
    Finding type
    historical_record
    Finding
No ship-specific asbestos survey, abatement record, hazmat disclosure, maintenance specification, product inventory, or qualifying litigation was located in the public sources researched for USS LCI(L)-70 / LCI(G)-70. Ship-specific asbestos documentation is therefore unknown.

    Accessed
    2026-09-30
    Study period
    Research completed 2026-09-30
    Limitations
This bounded negative finding reflects the sources and queries actually completed, not a conclusion that asbestos was absent. The exact-name CourtListener searches were pacing-blocked; the source sweep is incomplete in that respect. It does not establish absence of asbestos, exposure, causation, or legal eligibility.
