    Limitations
NavSource is a volunteer secondary compilation, not a primary registry; its stated history source is the Turner Publishing LCI volume, and campaign data is consistent with the Navy battle-star annex as republished by officialmilitaryribbons.com. Ship-specific history only; contains no asbestos or material content. The launch line renders '25 October3 1942' with a footnote-marker artifact - the footnote text itself was not located; 25 October 1942 is corroborated by uboat.net. Decommission date given only as 'in 1946' against a 26 Feb 1946 strike - see gaps.

Logbooks held at NARA; crew of record 1942-45
    Limitations
Archival lead only: SL44 is a custody index compiled in 1978, not the logbooks themselves - it documents that five logbooks exist and their coverage span, not their contents. Coverage ends 30 June 1945, before the 10 July 1945 LCI(R) redesignation - any post-conversion logs are not in this listing. The coverage start coincides with the NavSource commissioning date but is a logbook span, not a commissioning record. Order-of-battle detail for this hull: ordered 3 June 1942 per data block; reclassified LCI(R) 10 July 1945; sold 2 December 1946. Commanding officers appear in the transcribed operation orders: Lt.(jg) S.Z. Kepner, USNR at Cape Gloucester (Operation Dexterity, 26 Dec 1943, Task Unit 76.1.31 Beach Yellow One LCI unit) and again in the 22 April 1944 Hollandia (TG 77.1 Western Attack Group) and 17 May 1944 Toem-Wakde-Sarmi (TU 77.2.3 LCI Group under T/Cdr. H.F. McGee, USN) listings; Lt.(jg) J.F. Dray, USNR in the Morotai (Operation Tradewind, 15 Sep 1944, TG 77.3.18) listing, where the craft is already labeled 'LCI(R)-72'; Ens. C.R. Weiner, USNR at Brunei Bay (10 Jun 1945, TU 78.1.33 LCI(R) Unit under Lt.Cdr. R.E. Sargent, USNR; also in the 'White' Support Unit 78.1.37) and at Lutong (20 Jun 1945, TU 76.20.55 Support Unit). At Tarakan (Operation Oboe I, 1 May 1945) she appears in TG 78.1.32 LCI(R) Unit; a 5 May 1945 movement entry lists LCI(R)-72 departing the Tarakan area for Morotai under CTG 78.1.93.

    Limitations
Secondary compilation reproducing official task-organization documents verbatim; assignment detail is drawn from action reports/operation orders as transcribed by the site, not independently verified against the originals. The September 1944 Morotai listing already styles the craft 'LCI(R)-72', while NavSource dates the official LCI(R) redesignation 10 July 1945 and captions the Morotai photo as 'LCI(L)-72' - whether rocket conversion preceded the formal redesignation or the transcriber applied the later pennant is unresolved (see gaps). vessel_history
    Finding
Yard-list corroboration: hull 72 built by 'Consol. Steel, Orange TX,' delivered/commissioned 31-Dec-42, disposition 'Sold 1946' - consistent with NavSource's sale of 2 December 1946. The table's variant column flags hull 72 'G' (LCI(G), the gunboat conversion) while NavSource and uboat.net record only the LCI(R) rocket conversion - an unreconciled variant-history discrepancy (see gaps). Class context from the same table's notes: 923 LCI(L)s built by 10 shipyards; the basic design (first 350 hulls) was 158.5 ft and 216 t light, later boats six inches longer and 30 t heavier; variants LC(FF), LCI(G), LCI(M), LCI(R).

    Limitations
Secondary yard-list compilation (Tim Colton's shipbuilding history project), not a primary registry; the 'G' variant flag may reflect an intermediate LCI(G) conversion or a table convention - the table abbreviates and cannot resolve which conversion(s) this hull underwent. Corroborates NavSource on build and sale; no asbestos content.

    Finding
A diesel-powered amphibious landing craft built September-December 1942 at Consolidated Steel, Orange TX, sits inside the Navy's documented asbestos-use era. Era-standard applications aboard a diesel craft of this type and period were engine exhaust and muffler lagging, machinery-space thermal insulation, gaskets, valve packing, electrical/cable insulation, and brake linings on winches and windlass. As a diesel craft she carried no boilers or steam turbines - the boiler/turbine lagging pathway of steam ships does not apply, but the confined engine-room and troop-berthing adjacency of a 158-foot landing craft applies with full force.

    Limitations
Class/era inference only - no hull-specific insulation survey, material list, or work package located for LCI(L)-72. Finding
A veteran's service-connection claim for asbestos-related lung disease reached the Board of Veterans' Appeals after a July 1996 remand for development 'directed at determining the veteran's relative level of exposure to asbestos in service and during employment with Consolidated Steel Corporation in Orange, Texas, from 1942 to 1946' - this hull's builder and construction window. The Board found the claimant was NOT exposed to asbestos during his Consolidated Steel employment (driller in the boilermaker department), WAS exposed aboard Navy vessels in service, and granted service connection for asbestos-related lung disease on the service exposure.

Single-claimant administrative adjudication, non-precedential; neither the hull nor any specific ship is named, and the finding on the yard is negative for that claimant - it does not establish asbestos conditions at the Orange yard or aboard this vessel, nor does it defeat either. Finding
No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or litigation naming LCI(L)-72 / LCI(R)-72 was found in the public sources searched (see search_ledger). CourtListener returned zero opinion hits on exact and loose hull variants and zero qualifying docket hits (three docket rows were name collisions - 'LCI Industries' / docket-number strings) - a genuine negative, not a blocked search. No DANFS entry exists (numbered landing craft were not covered unless later named; a site search surfaced no LCI(L) entries). NVR carries no entry (pre-1987 disposal). WWII-era deck logs for this hull are not in the digitized catalog; five 1942-45 logbooks are in NARA custody per SL44 but undigitized. The LCI(L)-713 restoration project (same hull type, AFMM) publishes work narratives (metal repair, chipping, painting) with no asbestos or abatement disclosure located. Secondary sweeps surfaced no law-firm listicle specific to this hull.

    Limitations
Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - 1942 construction inside the Navy's documented asbestos era is itself consistent with era materials. The five SL44-listed logbooks (Dec 1942-Jun 1945) are an unexamined primary lead; builder work packages, conversion-yard records for the rocket refit, and the post-sale commercial record (buyer unnamed) are undigitized leads. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
