    Finding
NavSource records that USS LCI(L)-734 was laid down at Commercial Iron Works, Portland, Oregon, on 31 December 1943, launched 30 January 1944, and commissioned 14 February 1944. It lists the Western Caroline Islands operation (capture and occupation of the southern Palau Islands, 6 September-14 October 1944) and one battle star. It reports postwar occupation and China service from 25 September to 16 December 1945, transfer to the U.S. Maritime Commission on 18 February 1948, transfer to Argentina as ARA BDI No. 8 (Q-61) in 1948, and disposal by the Argentine Navy in 1949 with final fate unknown.

    Limitations
NavSource is a compiled secondary hull reference, not a contemporaneous deck log. Decommissioning and striking dates are expressly unknown. Its class specifications do not verify this hull's crew or installed materials. The page contains no asbestos finding.

    Finding
A Library of Congress Historic American Engineering Record for LCI(L)-653 describes the LCI(L)-351 class design as using eight six-cylinder General Motors Series 71 diesel engines, four per propeller shaft, with variable-pitch propellers.

    Limitations
This is a record of sister craft LCI(L)-653 and class design, not an inspection of LCI(L)-734. It does not establish this hull's actual machinery, asbestos use, or any exposure.

    Limitations
Navy-wide material-development history; it does not say this product, standard asbestos cloth, or any asbestos-containing material was installed on LCI(L)-734 or on the LCI(L)-351 class. It is era context only and cannot support a ship-specific exposure claim.

    Locator
Search ledger below; bounded negative finding
    Finding type
    historical_record
    Finding
No ship-specific asbestos survey, construction specification, abatement record, or qualifying asbestos litigation record naming LCI(L)-734 was located in the completed source review. The authenticated CourtListener search remained incomplete due to fleet pacing and is not included in this negative finding.

    Limitations
A negative search result is not proof that no asbestos was aboard or that no lawsuit exists. The CourtListener sweep was paced out at this stage; deck logs and engineering drawings were not inspected. No individual exposure or causation conclusion follows.
