- NavSource is a volunteer secondary compilation, not a primary registry; its source attribution is the Turner Publishing company history. Milestone dates verified live against the page on 2026-09-30 and the commissioning date is corroborated by NARA Special List 44 log coverage. The flotilla/group assignment conflicts with the NHHC 1 May 1945 Pacific Fleet organization table (see ev-02 and gaps). Contains no asbestos content.

- Finding

- Limitations
- Ship-specific in-theater listing for this hull under its documented commander, but a one-day organizational snapshot - wartime LCI flotilla/group assignments shifted and this table shows Flotilla 14/Group 42/Division 83, while NavSource's Turner-sourced history gives Flotilla 36/Group 108/Division 215; both are recorded and the discrepancy is unresolved (see gaps). - Finding
- NARA Special List 44 (ship-number ordering, PDF page 28) lists LCI(L)-743 with Navy logbook coverage beginning 22 March 1944 and ending 30 June 1945. The begin date coincides with the NavSource-documented commissioning date; the coverage window runs through the end of active WWII operations.

- Crew of record during the logged period
- Limitations
- Log-coverage endpoints are holding dates for logbooks at NARA, not commissioning/decommissioning records - the 22 March 1944 begin date happens to coincide with commissioning, but the 30 June 1945 end date is not evidence of a June 1945 decommissioning (NavSource records decommissioning as 'date unknown'). These are WWII-era RG 24 logbooks; they are not part of NARA's digitized deck-log collection and their contents were not reviewed. No asbestos content.

[6]Historic American Engineering Record (NPS) HAER No. OR-180, LCI(L)-713, Amphibious Forces Memorial Museum, Portland, OR (2012; built on NRHP nomination listed 2007) [haer]
- Locator
- HAER OR-180 data pages 1-3 (measurements, description, historical information)
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- NPS HAER documentation of a sister LCI-351-class hull records the class construction standard: welded 1/4-inch steel plate; two decks; deckhouse with troop and ship's-officer accommodations, mess, wardroom, and galley; engine room carrying eight General Motors 6-71 diesel engines in four pairs driving two shafts with variable-pitch propellers; enclosed foredeck with centerline ramp and well deck; five single 20mm Oerlikon positions; troop capacity 182 enlisted and six officers. Approximately 1,051 LCIs of the type were constructed in ten different shipyards during WWII. LCI(L)-713 - built by George Lawley & Son, Neponset, MA - is the last surviving example of the class in original configuration.

- Limitations
- Class/design documentation of a different hull and a different builder - establishes the Bureau of Ships standard design and materials for the LCI-351 class, not anything installed aboard LCI(L)-743 specifically. The HAER data pages contain no asbestos or insulation-material statement.

- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- A diesel-driven landing craft built February-March 1944 sits inside the Navy's documented asbestos-use era; era-standard applications aboard a small diesel combatant of this period were thermal insulation around machinery and diesel exhaust, gaskets, valve packing, and electrical/interior insulation in the confined hull volume. As a diesel vessel she carried no steam plant - the boiler/turbine lagging pathway of steam vessels does not apply.

- Finding
- The Project Hula monograph's appendix of LCI(L)s transferred to the Soviet Union at Cold Bay in 1945 (hulls including 521-527, 551, 557, 585-592, 665-671, 943-946) does not include LCI(L)-743 - consistent with NavSource's disposal record (Maritime Commission transfer 19 March 1947) rather than Soviet transfer.

- Limitations
- Negative check against a transfer list - absence from the appendix supports but does not by itself prove the disposal path; the affirmative record is NavSource's Maritime Commission line. Monograph is an official NHHC publication accessed via a third-party mirror; mirror text verified against the published structure. No asbestos content.

- Locator
- search_ledger rows sl-uss-lci-l-743-lcil743-01 through -11
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or verified litigation naming USS LCI(L)-743 was found in the public sources searched (see search_ledger). CAVEAT: CourtListener could not be queried this session - the authenticated helper returned the fleet pacing stand-down (shared ~114/hr budget spent) on six spaced attempts; logged as blocked in search_ledger, not as a negative result. Secondary web sweeps surfaced no qualifying case; 'asbestos aboard' material naming this hull exists only in law-firm marketing listicles asserting asbestos without primary sourcing - excluded by source policy.

- Limitations
- Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - and the litigation repository search is a genuine open gap (throttled, not run). Deck logs (RG 24, coverage ending 30 June 1945) and Maritime Commission disposal records are undigitized leads. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
