    Finding type
    vessel_history
    Finding
NavSource identifies this hull as LCI-351-class: laid down 15 May 1944 at Commercial Iron Works, Portland, Oregon; launched 11 June 1944; commissioned USS LCI(L)-766 on 19 June 1944; and reclassified Landing Craft Infantry (Rocket), LCI(R)-766, on 15 March 1945. It lists the hull in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater with LCI Flotilla 16, LCI Group 47, and LCI Division 94; credits one battle star for the Okinawa Gunto assault and occupation, 26 March-30 June 1945; and lists postwar China Service Medal (extended), American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal (one star), World War II Victory Medal, and Navy Occupation Service Medal with Asia clasp. It records decommissioning 1 June 1946, transfer to the Maritime Commission 16 April 1947, later civilian names Knickerbocker VII (1957), Day Line VII (1960), and Circle Line IX (1967), with final disposition unknown.

    Population
Crew and embarked personnel during Navy service; civilian operators after 1947
    Limitations
NavSource is a secondary compilation, not a contemporaneous deck log, Navy Register entry, or conversion work package. It contains no asbestos, material-content, abatement, survey, or individual-exposure evidence. It says the striking date and final disposition are unknown; no more specific disposition is asserted here.

    Finding type
    historical_record
    Finding
NARA Special List 44 inventories deck logs for 'LCI(L)(R)-766' from 19 June 1944 through 30 June 1945. The inventory therefore covers the commissioning date and includes the period after the 15 March 1945 LCI(R) reclassification, including the cited Okinawa campaign period.

    Population
    Navy crew, 19 June 1944-30 June 1945
    Limitations
This is an inventory entry, not the logs themselves. It establishes held log coverage, not the contents of the logs, maintenance performed, materials aboard, or asbestos exposure. It does not establish whether logs after 30 June 1945 survive.

  4. [4]National Park Service / Library of Congress, Historic American Engineering Record HAER AK-52, M/V Husky II (USS LCI(L)-653), LCI(L)-351-class written history and descriptive data; corroborated for this hull's engine specification by NavSource [haer]
    Locator
HAER AK-52, pp. 1-2 and 4, class, design, and propulsion description; NavSource 10/15/150766.htm specifications, 'Propulsion' block
    Finding type
    asbestos_application
    Finding
NPS/Library of Congress HAER documentation for LCI(L)-653 describes the LCI(L)-351 class as an ocean-going infantry landing craft, one of more than 900 built in World War II, with diesel engines driving twin screws. NavSource's LCI(L)-766 specifications likewise list two sets of four General Motors 6051 Series 71 diesel engines, twin screws, and ship's-service diesel generators. These sources establish all-diesel class/design context for this hull; they do not document asbestos aboard it.

World War II class/design context; LCI(L)-766 commissioned service 1944-1946
    Population
LCI(L)-351-class construction and operating populations; LCI(L)-766 crew during 1944-46
    Limitations
HAER AK-52 records sister LCI(L)-653, not LCI(L)-766, and neither it nor the NavSource specification block says that asbestos was installed, identifies a product, or identifies an exposure pathway aboard this hull. Diesel propulsion excludes no material category by itself and does not support a hull-specific asbestos finding.

2026-09-30 helper diagnostic: 'COURTLISTENER PACING: the fleet-wide request budget is momentarily spent'; no CourtListener search response or case result was returned
    Finding type
    litigation_documented
    Finding
No qualifying ship-specific asbestos litigation finding is recorded in this entry. The required authenticated CourtListener API v4 sweep could not be completed: the helper's first exact-name opinion query, 'USS LCI(L)-766', stopped before an HTTP request because the fleet-wide pacing budget was momentarily spent. The remaining exact-name and hull-number queries were not sent in order to comply with the helper's stand-down instruction.

    Limitations
This is a documented incomplete-search result, not proof that no lawsuit, docket, opinion, allegation, or exposure evidence exists. No name or hull-number CourtListener query completed; no litigation outcome is classified from this attempt.
