- Finding
- NavSource's hull page identifies USS LCI(L)-794 as an LCI-351-class Landing Craft Infantry (Large): laid down 10 July 1944 at New Jersey Ship Building Corp., Barber, New Jersey; launched 11 August 1944; commissioned 19 August 1944. During World War II it was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, LCI Flotilla Thirteen, LCI Group Thirty-Eight, LCI Division Seventy-Five. The page records decommissioning in 1946, striking from the Naval Register on 28 March 1946, sale on 4 December 1946, and final disposition unknown. Its specification block gives a 158-foot-5.5-inch craft with a diesel propulsion plant: two sets of four General Motors 6051 series 71 diesels, four engines per shaft, General Motors main reduction gears, twin variable-pitch propellers, 2,320 shp, and two diesel-drive 30 kW 120V DC ship's-service generators; complement four officers and 24 enlisted. Two contributor photographs identify the hull at anchor and hauled out, each undated and unlocated.

- Population
- New Jersey Ship Building construction trades (1944); crew (4 officers and 24 enlisted); embarked troops (capacity 6 officers and 182 enlisted per NavSource)
- Limitations
- NavSource is a volunteer secondary compilation, not an official registry; its cited underlying history is a 1995 published compilation. It supplies identity and chronology but contains no asbestos or material-content evidence and does not give a decommissioning day, buyer, or final fate. The 19 August commissioning date is independently corroborated by NARA Special List 44; no independent source for the other milestones was located in this review.

- Finding
- NARA Special List 44 indexes a deck-log run for LCI(L)-794 from 19 August 1944 through 30 June 1945. The run's start agrees with the NavSource commissioning date. The listed endpoint is log coverage only, not a decommissioning date; NavSource records service through decommissioning in 1946.

- Limitations
- This is a NARA finding aid, not the deck logs themselves. It establishes the indexed date span and an archival route for operational and maintenance research, but neither log contents nor digitization were reviewed. It contains no asbestos or material finding and its 30 June 1945 endpoint must not be treated as a service endpoint.

[4]National Archives, 'Researching Asbestos aboard U.S. Naval Vessel up through 1961' - RG 19 Bureau of Ships research guide [other_primary]
- Locator
- NARA guide: Beginning Research; Bureau of Ships correspondence; General Information Books (Entry P 10); Specifications and Standards; Cartographic Branch (S39/S48); Other Records and their usefulness
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- NARA's official research guide identifies the 1941-1961 Navy-materiel period as a complex asbestos-research topic. For vessel-level research, it directs researchers to RG 19 Bureau of Ships correspondence, including individual-hull, class, type, and private-yard filing paths; the Amphibious Vessel General Information Books (Entry P 10, 1940-1962); specification files; and ship engineering drawings, including S39 insulation-and-lagging and S48 piping drawings. The guide cautions that deck logs do not provide direct evidence of asbestos use or presence.

- Population
- Potentially construction, repair, and crew populations for U.S. Navy vessels in the guide's 1941-1961 scope
- Limitations
- Collection-level research guidance only. It does not name LCI(L)-794, New Jersey Ship Building Corp., the LCI-351 class, a product, or an asbestos-containing material aboard this hull. No responsive RG 19 item was retrieved; this row is an archival lead and does not convert era context into a ship-specific finding.

- Finding
- No public ship-specific asbestos survey, abatement record, hazardous-material disclosure, or material schedule was located for USS LCI(L)-794 in the completed non-CourtListener sources. The CourtListener opinion and docket searches could not complete because the required authenticated fleet pacer did not return a request token within the command window; this is a coverage gap, not a negative CourtListener result.

- Limitations
- Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard. The CourtListener sweep is incomplete and must not be represented as a no-results finding. NARA RG 19 correspondence, Amphibious Vessel GIBs, S39/S48 drawings, and the underlying RG 24 deck logs remain unreviewed archival leads.

[6]Era/type inference from NavSource diesel-propulsion specification and NARA's 1941-1961 naval-asbestos research scope [other_primary]
- Locator
- NavSource LCI-351 specifications, propulsion subsection; NARA naval-asbestos guide, 1941-1961 scope and RG 19 research-path sections
- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- This hull was a 1944-built, diesel-powered LCI-351 landing craft within the period addressed by NARA's Navy-asbestos research guide. The documented propulsion configuration has no boiler or steam-turbine plant, so boiler and turbine insulation should not be attributed to this hull. Whether other diesel-craft components or insulation aboard this particular hull contained asbestos is unknown pending a hull/class material record.

- New Jersey Ship Building construction trades (1944); crew during 1944-1946 service
- Limitations
- Conservative era/type context only. NARA's guide establishes research pathways, not installation of asbestos on every vessel in its date range; NavSource establishes propulsion, not material composition. This row does not identify an asbestos product, manufacturer, quantity, exposure, or a ship-specific condition.
