New Jersey Ship Building Corp. construction trades (1944); crew and embarked troops (1944-46)
    Limitations
NavSource is a volunteer secondary compilation (citing Turner Publishing's LCI history), not a primary registry - milestone dates are not independently verified against NVR or DANFS (no DANFS entry exists for this hull). Its LCI Flotilla Five/Group 41/Division 81 assignment conflicts with the official NHHC 1 May 1945 organization (Flotilla 19/Group 55/Division 109(M)) - both recorded, conflict in gaps. Contains no asbestos content.

    Finding
The official 1 May 1945 Pacific Fleet organization lists 'LCI 806 | Lt. (jg) W. H. Cochenour (USNR)' inside LCI Division 109 (M) - the (M) matching her mortar reclassification of the day before - under LCI Group 55, LCI Flotilla Nineteen (Commander LCI Flotilla Nineteen: Lt. Cdr. E. C. Folger, Jr.), Amphibious Forces, Pacific Fleet (V. Adm. R. K. Turner). Confirms the hull in active commissioned Pacific Fleet service under its documented commanding officer one day after the LCI(M) redesignation.

    Limitations
Establishes organizational assignment as of 1 May 1945 only; conflicts with the NavSource/Turner listing of Flotilla Five / Group 41 / Division 81 (undated in that source) - see gaps. The document contains no asbestos, material, or casualty content.

    Finding
NPS class documentation for the LCI(L)-351 design this hull was built to: welded 1/4-inch steel plate; two decks with troop compartments, crew space, and engine room below and deckhouse (accommodations, mess, wardroom, galley) above; eight General Motors 6-71 diesel engines in four pairs on two shafts with variable-pitch propellers; troop capacity 182 enlisted + 6 officers; the modified design (cylindrical pilothouse, centerline ramp) applied to ships built after 1 June 1944; approximately 1,051 ships of the type constructed in ten shipyards during WWII; designed by the Bureau of Ships. LCI(L)-713 is the last remaining LCI in original WWII configuration - a class-mate of this hull.

LCI construction trades across ten wartime yards; class crews
    Limitations
Class-level documentation of a sister ship (LCI(L)-713), not a hull record for 806 - establishes the standard design and plant but not what materials were aboard this specific hull. Contains no asbestos information; does not establish asbestos presence or absence.

  6. [6]Era inference built on: NavSource specifications (8 GM series-71 diesels, twin variable-pitch props, 2,320 shp - diesel plant, no steam); HAER OR-180 class description (welded 1/4-inch steel plate construction); GAO HRD-80-2 Navy asbestos-era documentation (see ev-06) [other_primary]

    Finding type
    asbestos_application
    Finding
A diesel-powered welded-steel landing craft built mid-1944 sits inside the Navy's documented asbestos-use era; era-standard applications aboard a diesel amphibious craft of this period were engine and exhaust-system lagging, machinery gaskets, valve packing, electrical insulation, and interior fireproof sheet in accommodation/deckhouse spaces. As a diesel craft she carried no boilers or steam turbines - the boiler/turbine lagging pathway of steam vessels does not apply.

    Limitations
Class/era inference only - no hull-specific insulation survey, material list, or work package located for LCI(L)-806. Names era-standard applications, not confirmed installed materials. No quantity. Product names are normalized era terms; no manufacturer attribution for this hull.

    Finding type

    Finding
GAO documented that the Navy used asbestos insulation extensively aboard ships and did not begin substituting alternative insulation materials until the early 1970s - spanning this hull's entire construction (1944) and commissioned service (1944-46).

    search_ledger rows sl-uss-lci-l-806-lcil806-01 through -12
    Finding type
    historical_record
    Finding
No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, museum hazmat file, or litigation naming LCI(L)-806 / LCI(G)-806 / LCI(M)-806 was found in the public sources searched (see search_ledger). No DANFS entry exists (NHHC candidate URL returns Page Not Found); no MARAD status card is digitized for this hull; no NVR entry exists. CourtListener opinion index returned zero results for all three designation variants; the RECAP docket index could not be queried (fleet pacing budget spent after the opinion search completed) - logged as blocked for type=r, not a negative result. Secondary web sweeps surfaced no qualifying case; the only 'asbestos aboard landing craft' material is law-firm marketing content (asbestos-ships.com, mesothelioma.com, gorilaw.com, mesotheliomahope.com) - excluded by source policy.

    Limitations
Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard. The opinion index is clean for the hull's designations, but the RECAP docket index remains an open gap (paced, not run) - an unreported district-level complaint naming this hull would not surface in type=o. RG 24 deck logs and the ship's construction/acceptance records at NARA are undigitized leads. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
