    Limitations
NavSource is a volunteer secondary compilation; its LCI(L) history is a verbatim transcription of the Turner Publishing association volume - ship-specific but not a primary registry. Contains no asbestos content. Laid-down/launched dates are given only to the year. Struck date given only as '1946.'

    Finding
Independent build-table corroboration: the New Jersey Shipbuilding production table lists LCI(L) 812 for the U.S. Navy, delivered September 1944, struck 1946 - matching NavSource's builder, delivery month, and strike year. Yard context: New Jersey Shipbuilding was an assembly line for LCIs on the Arthur Kill at Barber, NJ; management of the yard was taken over by Todd Shipyards in 1942 at the Navy's request and the yard closed after the war. The master LCI(L) table records 923 LCI(L)s built by ten shipyards.

    Limitations
Reputable industry-reference secondary source, not a government primary record; used only to corroborate builder, delivery month, and strike year already carried by NavSource. The Todd relationship was yard management under wartime Navy directive - New Jersey Shipbuilding, not Todd's own yard, built this hull. No asbestos content.

    Finding type
    historical_record
    Finding
Federal heritage documentation of the LCI-351 class to which this hull belongs: HAER OR-180 records the post-1-June-1944 modified design - cylindrical pilothouse and centerline bow ramp - built of welded 1/4-inch steel plate; engine room containing four pairs of General Motors 6-71 diesel engines connected to two shafts and variable-pitch propellers; two decks; deckhouse with accommodations, mess, wardroom, and galley; troop capacity 182 enlisted and six officers; five single 20mm Oerlikon cannon positions. The NRHP nomination describes the same construction, the above-and-underwater exhaust system used to lessen engine noise during landings, and records that LCIs were designed for rapid assembly-line production using only non-specialized equipment already in the naval or civilian supply system.

Class-wide construction trades (1943-45); crews and embarked troops
    Limitations
Class-level documentation of a sister ship, not this hull. Neither the HAER short form nor the NRHP nomination mentions asbestos, insulation, or lagging - their silence neither confirms nor excludes asbestos aboard the class; it only means the heritage documents do not address materials content. No ship-specific inference may be drawn for LCI(L)-812.

    asbestos_application
    Finding
An all-welded steel amphibious craft built 1944 inside the Navy's documented asbestos era. As a diesel-powered craft she carried no steam plant - the boiler/turbine lagging pathway of larger combatants does not apply. Era-plausible asbestos applications aboard a craft of this type and period were limited to engine exhaust lagging (including the underwater-exhaust system), machinery gaskets and valve packing, electrical insulation, and interior finish materials - a materially smaller footprint than on steam vessels.

    Limitations
Class/era inference only - no hull-specific insulation survey, material list, work package, or abatement record located for LCI(L)-812. Names era-standard applications, not confirmed installed materials. No quantity, no manufacturer attribution. The small size, welded construction, and diesel plant of this type bound - but do not eliminate - the plausible scope.

    Finding type
    historical_record
    Finding
No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or crew affidavit naming LCI(L)-812 was found in the public sources searched (see search_ledger). NHHC/DANFS carries no individual entry for this numbered landing craft; NVR excludes pre-1987 disposals; NARA deck-log digitization could not be verified this session. Secondary web sweeps surfaced no qualifying case and no law-firm listicle claims specific to this hull. CAVEAT: CourtListener could not be queried this session - the fleet-wide authenticated pacer reported the shared hourly request budget exhausted across repeated attempts over ~40 minutes; logged as blocked in search_ledger, not as a negative result.

    Limitations
Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - and the litigation repository search is a genuine open gap (throttled, not run). Deck logs (RG 24) and BuShips work packages for this hull are undigitized archival leads. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
