    Finding
The U.S. Coast Guard Historian's Office identifies USS LCI(L)-86 as Coast Guard-manned, built by Consolidated Steel Corporation at Orange, Texas; commissioned 29 January 1943; decommissioned 8 April 1946 at Galveston, Texas; and transferred to the Maritime Commission for disposal on 13 November 1947. It gives a complement of three officers and 21 enlisted personnel and propulsion of eight GM diesels on twin shafts, 1,600 hp.

    Limitations
Official Coast Guard history and specification record, not an asbestos survey, material list, abatement record, or exposure record. The live page was verified through Studio-side search; direct worktree retrieval returned HTTP 403. It establishes a documented U.S. Navy commission notwithstanding Coast Guard manning, but does not establish asbestos aboard, individual exposure, causation, or legal eligibility.

NavSource documents LCI(L)-86 as laid down 13 October 1942, launched 20 December 1942, and commissioned as USS LCI(L)-86 on 23 January 1943 with LTjg. Harold A. Levin, USCGR, in command. It records decommissioning on 8 April 1946, transfer to the Maritime Commission on 13 November 1947, and two sets of four General Motors 6051-series 71 diesel engines driving twin variable-pitch propellers.

    Limitations
NavSource is a secondary compilation; the exact navsource.net page returned HTTP 200 when checked live. Its 23 January commissioning date conflicts with the Coast Guard Historian's Office's 29 January date; neither date is selected as resolved here. This source does not identify asbestos-containing material, a survey, abatement, or exposure.

Shipbuilding and repairing—historical contact with asbestos in shipyard work section
    Finding type
    asbestos_application
    Finding
OSHA's shipyard asbestos rulemaking states that asbestos products were used extensively on American ships from the early 1940s through the late 1970s, including joiner bulkhead systems, insulation for steam and hot-water pipes, boilers, and tanks, ceiling tile, and fire-resistant bulkhead sheets.

    Limitations
General American-ship and era evidence only. It neither names LCI(L)-86 nor supplies an LCI-1 material specification; several listed applications concern steam systems whereas this hull is documented as diesel-powered. It cannot establish asbestos aboard this hull, any product, quantity, condition, exposure, causation, or legal eligibility.
