- Finding
- This hull was laid down 4 September 1944 at New Jersey Shipbuilding, Barber, New Jersey; launched 3 October 1944; and commissioned USS LCI(L)-871 on 10 October 1944. NavSource identifies it as an LCI-351-class craft, assigns it to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater with LCI Flotilla 13, LCI Group 39, and LCI Division 78, and records decommissioning as unknown with lay-up in Reserve. It was reclassified LSIL-871 on 28 February 1949, transferred to France on 8 January 1951 as RFS L9033, and later transferred to South Vietnam in 1956 as RVNS Tam Set (HQ-331); striking date and final fate are unknown.

- U.S. Navy crew and embarked troops, 1944-1947; later French and South Vietnamese crews
- Limitations
- The page is a compiled vessel-history source and does not provide a contemporaneous commissioning document, asbestos survey, material inventory, or decommissioning date. It documents later foreign transfers but the record's eligibility rests on the documented U.S. Navy commissioning. It does not establish asbestos presence, exposure, quantity, or legal eligibility.

- Finding type

- Finding
- NARA's by-ship-number inventory lists LCI(L)-871 deck logs from 10 October 1944 through 30 June 1945, beginning on the documented commissioning date.

- Limitations
- This is an inventory entry, not the contents of the deck logs. It establishes an archival lead and a period of listed log coverage; it does not establish asbestos content, exposure, or events not recorded in the inventory.

[3]Library of Congress, Historic American Engineering Record HAER AK-52, M/V Husky II (ex USS LCI(L)-653), LCI(L)-351-class documentation [haer]
- Locator
- HAER AK-52 written history and significance pages; NavSource LCI(L)-871 specifications, propulsion block
- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- HAER documents the LCI(L) design as a World War II Bureau of Ships landing-craft type of about 158 feet, built in numbers exceeding 900, and describes the sister LCI(L)-653's later hazardous-material cleanup. NavSource's hull page specifies for LCI(L)-871 two sets of four General Motors diesel engines, four engines per shaft, twin variable-pitch propellers, and 2,320 shaft horsepower. At class/era level, this supports an all-diesel craft context in which exhaust or muffler lagging, machinery insulation, gaskets, packing, and electrical insulation are possible asbestos-relevant applications; none is documented aboard LCI(L)-871.

- World War II LCI(L) construction and operating personnel
- Limitations
- HAER documents a sister hull and the LCI(L) design, not LCI(L)-871, and its hazardous-material cleanup does not identify asbestos aboard this hull. The listed applications are cautious class/era inference from design and period, not ship-specific findings. No quantity, product identity, installation date, remaining material, or exposure is established.

[4]Research sweep of NavSource, NARA, NHHC/Navy history indexes, NPS/LOC/HAER, and live-web results; CourtListener authenticated helper attempts [other_primary]
- Locator
- search_ledger rows sl-uss-lci-l-871-lcil871-01 through -07
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- No ship-specific asbestos survey, abatement record, hazmat disclosure, museum record, or qualifying asbestos litigation record was located for LCI(L)-871, LCI-871, or LSIL-871 in the sources searched. Exact-name and hull-number CourtListener opinion/docket requests were attempted through the authenticated helper, but the fleet limiter returned a stand-down before results could be retrieved; this is a coverage gap, not a no-result. Firecrawl search was also unavailable because its keyless MCP quota was exhausted with a multi-hour retry window.

- Limitations
- A failure to locate a record does not prove that asbestos was absent or that no litigation exists. CourtListener pleading-stage docket coverage remains open because the authenticated request was blocked by fleet-wide pacing; name collisions and unindexed records are not ruled out. No claim about individual exposure, causation, product identity, or legal eligibility is made.
