The Navy Bureau of Ships design table for LCI(L) hulls 351-1098 lists: length 159'0" overall, extreme beam 23'8", full-load displacement 387 tons, trial speed 14.4 knots (model-basin estimate); accommodations 8 officers and 32 enlisted; armament five 20-mm A.A. machine guns; two propellers; G. M. Diesel 6051 series 71 engines; 2,320 shaft horsepower; single G. M. main reduction gears; two diesel-drive ship's service generators of 20 kW each at 120 V D.C.

    Limitations
Design-table specifications are type-level, not a survey of hull 873. Diesel propulsion does not prove presence or absence of asbestos. The design-table accommodation figure is a berthing spec, not a verified crew complement; no complement is carried pending DANFS/NHHC confirmation.

    Crew and embarked troops (1944-46)
    Limitations
NavSource is a volunteer secondary compilation, not a primary registry; milestone and assignment detail rests on the Turner Publishing LCI history it credits. Construction dates agree with the Bureau of Ships table (ev-01). Contains no asbestos content. The spec block's figures are type-level (e.g., 'complement 4 officers, 24 enlisted' is the class-standard figure, unverified for this hull).

    Finding
The CNO's official loss list (Fleet Admiral King's wartime reports to the Secretary of the Navy, Appendix C, 'Losses of United States Naval Vessels From all Causes, 7 December 1941-1 October 1945') records district patrol craft YP 383 lost at 08 22 N, 79 29 W on 24 November 1944 - a position in the Gulf of Panama. NavSource's YP-383 (ex-AMc-145) page states she was 'sunk 24 November 1944 after a collision with USS LCI(L)-873 in the Gulf of Panama.' Six weeks after commissioning, this hull was involved in a collision that sank a Navy patrol craft while en route to Pacific assignment.

    Population
    LCI(L)-873 crew; YP-383 crew
    Limitations
The official CNO list establishes YP-383's loss date and position but does not name the colliding vessel; the collision attribution to LCI(L)-873 is NavSource's secondary compilation (verified live). A secondary-source variant dates the loss 23 November; the official list's 24 November is carried. No court of inquiry or casualty report for the collision was retrieved; the hull's deck logs (10/12/1944-6/30/1945, NARA Special List 44) would contain it. Not an exposure record.

    Limitations
The dates describe listed log coverage, not the end of commission or service - the list's columns reflect the compiled inventory span. The logs themselves were not retrieved; they would document the YP-383 collision, shakedown and Pacific transit. The list does not itself reproduce logs, identify asbestos or establish material condition.

    Finding type
    historical_record
    Finding
No ship-specific asbestos survey, abatement record, product inventory or asbestos-bearing vessel document was located in the accessible Navy, NARA, and Federal Register sources searched for this batch. Authenticated CourtListener opinion searches for the exact name and hull number returned zero opinions; the companion docket query could not run (see search_ledger).

    Limitations
A bounded negative search result, not evidence that the ship lacked asbestos. The CourtListener docket sweep was blocked by the fleet pacing limiter and cannot establish absence of litigation; 'no result' is asserted only for completed queries. Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard or of exposure.
