- Finding
- NavSource's hull page identifies this craft as LCI-351 class: laid down 17 January 1944 at Consolidated Steel Corp., Orange, Texas; launched 10 February 1944; and commissioned USS LCI(L)-945 on 22 March 1944. It assigns the hull to the Europe-Africa-Middle East Theater and credits the Invasion of southern France, 15 August-9 September 1944, for one World War II battle star. It reports decommissioning and transfer under Project Hula to the Soviet Union at Cold Bay, Alaska, on 29 July 1945 as DS-6; Soviet Kuril Islands operations, 18 August-1 September 1945; return to U.S. naval custody in 1955; subsequent striking from the Naval Register; and unknown final disposition. Its specification block describes an all-diesel craft: two sets of four General Motors diesels, four engines per shaft, 1,600 BHP, twin variable-pitch propellers; 16-knot maximum speed; and a design complement of four officers and 24 enlisted.

- Design crew of 4 officers and 24 enlisted, and up to 6 officers and 182 embarked troops by class specification
- Limitations
- NavSource is a compiled secondary reference, not a contemporaneous deck log, transfer record, or material survey. It supplies no asbestos information and does not provide a date for the 1955 return or striking. The complement and propulsion figures are class specifications, not a hull-specific muster or machinery inspection.

- LCI Group 107, LCI Division 216 row 'LCI 945'
- Finding type

- Finding
- The Navy's 1 May 1945 Pacific Fleet organization lists LCI 945 in LCI Division 216, LCI Group 107. The listing contains no commanding-officer entry for this hull.

- Crew assigned to LCI 945 and administrative command, 1945-05-01
- Limitations
- This is a point-in-time administrative listing. It establishes the hull's unit placement on 1 May 1945 but not its prior or later assignments, operations, crew composition, materials, or asbestos condition. A blank commander field is not evidence that the craft had no commanding officer.

[3]Library of Congress, Historic American Engineering Record HAER AK-52, M/V Husky II (USS LCI(L)-653), LCI(L)-351-class written history [haer]

- HAER AK-52 written history, LCI(L)-351-class description and propulsion discussion (pp. 8-10); principal data page
- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- HAER documents the LCI(L)-351-class design through a sister craft: an ocean-going infantry carrier designed by the Bureau of Ships in May 1942, with over 900 large infantry landing craft built by ten U.S. yards. The documented class propulsion was eight six-cylinder General Motors Series 71 diesel engines, four per propeller shaft, with variable-pitch propellers. Together with this hull's NavSource diesel specification, this establishes an all-diesel rather than boiler/steam design. Potential asbestos-relevant applications for a wartime diesel craft are engine exhaust or muffler lagging, machinery thermal or acoustic insulation, gaskets, packing, and electrical insulation.

- Limitations
- HAER AK-52 documents sister LCI(L)-653 and the class design, not LCI(L)-945, and it does not state that any of the listed applications contained asbestos. The application list is a class/era inference only; it does not establish products, quantities, installation, condition, exposure, or present-day asbestos on this hull.

[4]Batch-5591 research ledger: NavSource hull page; NHHC Pacific Fleet Organization, 1 May 1945; Library of Congress HAER AK-52; NARA Special List 44 deck-log inventory; CourtListener authenticated helper; official-source web sweep [other_primary]

- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos documentation was located in the sources completed for this hull: no asbestos survey, abatement record, hazmat disclosure, ship-specific materials list, or identified qualifying asbestos litigation. NARA Special List 44's searchable ship-number inventory did not return LCI(L)-945. CourtListener exact-name and hull-number searches were submitted only through the authenticated helper but could not complete because the fleet-wide paced request budget was temporarily spent; that gap is not treated as a no-result finding.

- Limitations
- This is a research negative, not proof of absence. The incomplete CourtListener sweep means that an opinion, docket, pleading-stage allegation, or name collision is not ruled out. Absence of a located survey or material record does not establish that asbestos was absent aboard the hull or that no person was exposed.
