    Finding
NavSource identifies this hull as LCI(L)-351-class: laid down 14 February 1944 at Consolidated Steel Corp., Ltd., Orange, Texas; launched 10 March 1944; commissioned USS LCI(L)-955 on 4 April 1944; reclassified Landing Craft Infantry (Guns), LCI(G)-955, on 15 June 1944; and reclassified back to Landing Craft Infantry (Large), LCI(L)-955, on 10 September 1945. It assigns the hull to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and credits four battle stars across the Leyte operation (Leyte landings 19-29 November 1944; Ormoc Bay landings 7-8 December 1944), the Luzon operation (Mindoro landings 12-18 December 1944), Consolidation of the Southern Philippines (Visayan Island landings 19 March-1 April 1945), and the Okinawa Gunto assault and occupation (26 March-28 June 1945). It lists the American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal (four stars), World War II Victory Medal, Philippine Presidential Unit Citation, and Philippine Liberation Medal. It records decommissioning and striking dates as unknown, transfer to the Maritime Commission for disposal on 30 December 1947, and final disposition as unknown.

Crew and embarked troops during Navy service 1944-1947
    Limitations
NavSource is a secondary compilation (attributed to the Turner Publishing volume), not a contemporaneous deck log, Navy Register entry, or conversion work package. It contains no asbestos, material-content, abatement, survey, or individual-exposure evidence. It records the decommissioning date, striking date, and final disposition as unknown; no more specific dates are asserted here.

    Finding
NavSource photo captions document two hull-specific records: a U.S. Navy photo from the Long Beach Navy Yard newspaper 'Drydock Digest' dated 12 September 1945 shows USS LCI(L)-955 with LCI(L)-956, LCI(L)-957, and nine other LCIs (including LCI(L)-960) in Drydock #3 at Navy Yard, Long Beach, California, September 1945; and a U.S. Army Signal Corps photo (SC 263764, National Archives 111-SCA-Album-2986) shows USS LCI(L)-955 and an unidentified LST beached at Panay, Philippine Islands, 19 March 1945, landing troops and equipment.

    Limitations
Photo captions document the hull's presence at Long Beach Navy Yard in September 1945 (consistent with the 10 September 1945 reversion to LCI(L)) and at Panay on 19 March 1945 (inside the credited Visayan Island landings window). They do not state the purpose, scope, duration, or materials of the drydocking and contain no asbestos or maintenance-content information.

    Finding
NARA Special List 44 inventories deck logs for 'LCI(L)-955' covering 5 April 1944 through 30 June 1945. The inventory therefore begins the day after the cited 4 April 1944 commissioning and spans the LCI(G) reclassification of 15 June 1944 and the Leyte, Ormoc Bay, Mindoro, Visayan, and early Okinawa campaign periods.

    Limitations
This is an inventory entry, not the logs themselves. It establishes held log coverage, not the contents of the logs, maintenance performed, materials aboard, or asbestos exposure. It does not establish whether logs after 30 June 1945 survive, and the entry indexes the hull under LCI(L)-955 only.

    Finding
A transcription of the Commander Task Group 78.1 report on Operation Oboe VI (Brunei Bay, June 1945) lists 'USS LCI(L)-955 (Lt.(jg) D.C. Alexander, USNR)' in Task Unit 78.1.13, the LCI unit under T/Capt. F.B.C. Martin, USN (COMLCI(L)FLOT 8), and again in Task Unit 78.1.16, the 'Brown' Assault Unit under T/Capt. H.B. Hudson, USN, for the 10 June 1945 landings of the Australian 9th Division at Brunei Bay.

1945-06 (Operation Oboe VI, Brunei Bay)
    Population
Crew under Lt.(jg) D.C. Alexander, USNR, June 1945
    Limitations
uboat.net is a secondary compilation; the underlying CTG 78.1 operation report is the primary record and was not itself reviewed. The transcribed task lists style the hull 'LCI(L)-955' although NavSource records the LCI(G) reclassification as already in force (15 June 1944 to 10 September 1945) during this operation - the discrepancy is noted, not resolved. Brunei Bay participation is not among the battle-star campaigns NavSource credits. No asbestos or material content is documented.

  5. [5]National Park Service / Library of Congress, Historic American Engineering Record HAER AK-52, M/V Husky II (USS LCI(L)-653), LCI(L)-351-class written history and descriptive data; corroborated for this hull's engine specification by NavSource [haer]

    Finding type
    asbestos_application
    Finding
NPS/Library of Congress HAER documentation for LCI(L)-653 describes the LCI(L)-351 class as an ocean-going infantry landing craft, one of more than 900 built in World War II, powered by quad sets of General Motors 6-71 diesel truck engines driving twin variable-pitch screws, with maximum speed 16 knots. NavSource's LCI(L)-955 specifications likewise list two sets of four General Motors diesel engines, four per shaft, 1,600 BHP, twin variable-pitch propellers, and 130-ton fuel capacity. These sources establish all-diesel class/design context for this hull; they do not document asbestos aboard it.

    Population
LCI(L)-351-class construction and operating populations; LCI(L)-955/LCI(G)-955 crew during 1944-47
    Limitations
HAER AK-52 records sister LCI(L)-653, not LCI(L)-955, and neither it nor the NavSource specification block says that asbestos was installed, identifies a product, or identifies an exposure pathway aboard this hull. Diesel propulsion excludes no material category by itself and does not support a hull-specific asbestos finding.

2026-09-30 helper diagnostics: 'COURTLISTENER PACING: the fleet-wide request budget is momentarily spent'; no CourtListener search response or case result was returned on any attempt
    Finding type
    litigation_documented
    Finding
No qualifying ship-specific asbestos litigation finding is recorded in this entry. The required authenticated CourtListener API v4 sweep could not be completed: the helper's opinion queries ('USS LCI(L)-955', 'LCI(L)-955', 'LCI-955', 'LCI(G)-955') stopped before an HTTP request on four spaced attempts because the fleet-wide pacing budget was momentarily spent each time. The RECAP docket searches were not sent in order to comply with the helper's stand-down instruction.

    Finding type

    Finding
No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record was located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, material list, maintenance/work package, or primary asbestos documentation naming LCI(L)-955 or LCI(G)-955 was found in the sources reviewed (see search_ledger). Targeted web searches for the hull designations in combination with 'asbestos' returned no results at all, including none from excluded law-firm or marketing sources.

    Limitations
Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - 1944 amphibious-craft construction is era-consistent with asbestos-containing insulation, gaskets, and packing, but that inference is not ship-proven. This finding does not establish that asbestos is or is not present, and does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
