Ship-specific history only; contains no asbestos or material content. Commissioning-date conflict with uboat.net (28 February 1945) carried in gaps.

- Finding
- Class-level documentation for the type: 'One hundred thirty LCS(L)(3)s were built during World War II. They were developed by the George Lawley Company, Neponset, Mass and produced there and by Albina Engine and Machine Works, and Comercial Iron Works, Portland Oregon. LCS(L)(3)s served only in the Pacific campaign. In 1949 LCS(L)(3)s remaining in the US Navy's inventory were redesignated Landing Ship Support Large (LSSL). Fifty-three LSSLs were transferred to the Japan Maritime Self-defense Force in 1952 and numerous others were transferred to allied nations.'

- LCS(L)(3) crews and construction workforces across the three builder yards (1944-45); JMSDF crews of transferred hulls (1952/53-late 1950s)
- Limitations
- Class index, not a hull record - establishes that this hull is one of 130 wartime-built LCS(L)(3)s and corroborates builder and JMSDF-transfer pattern. The '1952' JMSDF transfer year conflicts with the hull page's 30 September 1953 date (transfers ran 1952-53; navypedia dates this hull's transfer September 1953). No asbestos content.

- Finding
- DATE CONFLICT: uboat.net's ship page for this hull gives 'Commissioned 28 Feb 1945' - four days later than the NavSource-documented 24 February 1945. uboat.net corroborates the other milestones: built by Commercial Iron Works, Portland, Oregon; ordered 23 June 1944; laid down 13 January 1945; launched 3 February 1945; transferred to Japan 30 September 1953; returned to the USN 30 September 1958. NavSource's 24 February 1945 date is carried throughout this record (consistent with NavSource's commanding-officer table entry for LT. Crawford); the uboat.net variant is noted, not adopted. The 23 June 1944 order date is a uboat.net-only detail - carried in gaps as unverified.

- Locator
- HyperWar LCSL-103.html spec block
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- CORRECTION: the HyperWar stub page for this hull carries a generic spec block reading 'Built at __________, and commissioned 1944' - a placeholder that conflicts with the documented record. This hull was laid down 13 January 1945 and commissioned 24 February 1945 (NavSource); a 1944 commissioning is impossible for a hull not yet laid down. The stub's complement (5 officers, 68 enlisted), dimensions (158'5" length, 23'3" beam, 383 t full load), and propulsion ('2 G.M. diesel engines, model 6051, 1800 hp') also differ from the NavSource ship-specific figures (6 + 65; 158' / 23'8" / 387 t; quad-pack GM diesels, 1,600 BHP). NavSource figures carried throughout this record.

- Limitations
- Corrects a generic-stub date/spec conflict, not a material claim. HyperWar's 'model 6051' diesel notation matches the NavSource spec block's '6051 series 71' phrasing - consistent class literature; no conflict on engine type. No asbestos content.

[7]Board of Veterans' Appeals, Citation Nr. 9828426, Docket 94-15 783 (Sept. 23, 1998) - M21-1-era adjudication guidance recital on WWII ship construction asbestos [court_record]

- Finding type

- Finding
- A VA appellate decision recites the era's federal adjudication guidance: 'during World War II, several million people employed in U.S. shipyards and U.S. Navy veterans were exposed to chrysotile products, as well as amosite and crocidolite, since these varieties of African asbestos were used extensively in military ship construction,' and 'the manual informs that asbestos was used extensively in military ship construction, and that millions of U.S. Navy veterans were exposed.' This recital documents the federal adjudication baseline for WWII-era Navy hulls - the era within which this hull was built (January-February 1945) and crewed.

- WWII US shipyard workers and Navy veterans (era baseline)
- Limitations
- Era-guidance carrier only: the underlying decision concerned a Consolidated Steel (Orange, TX) yard worker and different vessels - it names neither this hull nor its builder. The M21-1 recital is general-era documentation, not evidence of materials aboard this hull. Merits ruling for that claimant only; provides no finding about LCS(L)(3)-103.

- asbestos_application
- Finding
- A diesel-powered landing craft built January-February 1945 sits inside the Navy's documented asbestos-use era; era-standard applications aboard a vessel of this type and period were thermal insulation around the diesel engines and exhaust runs, gaskets, valve packing, and electrical insulation in a compact 158-foot hull shared with berthing for 6 officers and 65 enlisted. As a diesel craft she carried no steam plant - the boiler/turbine lagging pathway of steam vessels does not apply.

- Limitations
- Class/era inference only - no hull-specific insulation schedule, material list, work package, or survey located for LCS(L)(3)-103 / LSSL-103 / Yaguruma. [9]Batch-5652 search ledger (this record): NavSource hull page and class index; uboat.net; navypedia; HyperWar stub; NHHC/DANFS (no entry); NVR (no entry - pre-1987 disposal); VA BVA decisions via secondary search (no LCS(L)/LSSL hull named); CourtListener opinion search (partially executed); NARA catalog (JS-rendered, unfetchable); GAO HRD-80-2 (blocked); secondary web litigation sweep [other_primary]

- Finding
- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, insulation schedule, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or verified litigation naming USS LCS(L)(3)-103 / LSSL-103 / JMSDF Yaguruma was found in the public sources searched. CourtListener exact-phrase opinion queries returned zero results for all seven designation variants: 'LCS(L)(3)-103', 'LCS(L)-103', 'LCS-103', 'LCSL-103', 'LCS (L) (3)-103', 'LSSL-103', 'Yaguruma'. All RECAP docket (type=r) queries could not be executed before the fleet-wide pacing budget closed - logged as blocked, not as a negative result. The only 'asbestos aboard' material located is law-firm marketing content asserting asbestos on landing craft generically without primary sourcing - excluded by source policy.

- Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - and the litigation repository search is incomplete (all docket searches unexecuted, though every opinion-variant query returned zero). Deck logs, Commercial Iron Works work packages, the JMSDF service file, and the post-1958 disposal record are undigitized or unlocated leads. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
