- Finding
- NavSource lists for this hull: 250 tons light and 387 tons full-load displacement, 158 feet overall length, 23 feet 8 inches beam, complement 6 officers and 65 enlisted, and propulsion by two quad packs of four General Motors 6051-series 71 diesel engines per shaft (BHP 1,600), single General Motors main reduction gears, two diesel-driven 60 kW 450V A.C. ship's-service generators, and twin variable-pitch propellers. The class carried a diesel plant only; no boilers or steam plant are listed.

- H-Gram 045, '12 April' section, 'Radar Pickett Station No. 1' paragraphs (pp. 19-20 of PDF); summary list at p. 15
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- NHHC's official H-Gram 045 account of the second massed kamikaze attack (Kikusui No. 2, 185 kamikaze, 12 April 1945) places 'LCS (L)-33' on Radar Picket Station No. 1 with Purdy (DD-734), Cassin Young (DD-793), and LCS(L)-57: at about 1441 one kamikaze dove on LCS(L)-33 and barely missed, carrying away radio antennas; two more dove from opposite directions, one was downed and the other crashed amidships, 'setting fire to most of the vessel and knocking out all the pumps. The skipper ordered abandon ship, with four dead and 29 wounded.' A further kamikaze hit ensured she sank. The summary section likewise records 'LCS(L)-33 was also sunk' alongside Mannert L. Abele (DD-733).

- USS LCS(L)(3)-33 crew at time of loss (4 dead, 29 wounded per source); crews of Purdy, Cassin Young, LCS(L)-57
- Limitations
- Official NHHC narrative documents the loss and casualty figures (4 dead, 29 wounded) for this hull; it contains no asbestos or materials information, and casualty figures are the publication's, not adjudicated. The H-Gram names only LCS(L)-33 and LCS(L)-57 though it notes four large support landing craft were on station.

- Locator
- Special List #44 PDF, LCS(L)(3) block, row 'LCS(L)(3)-33 9/27/1944 2/28/1945'
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- NARA Special List #44 lists LCS(L)(3)-33 with a begin date of 9/27/1944 - matching the NavSource commissioning date - and an end date of 2/28/1945, indicating NARA's indexed records coverage for the hull ends roughly six weeks before the April 1945 sinking.

- The list indexes NARA-held records coverage (deck logs) by ship number; its end date reflects the extent of holdings, not necessarily the vessel's full service period, and the document contains no material or asbestos information.

- Locator
- archived faq82-1.htm, LCS(L) section, 'USS LCS(L)(3)-33' entry
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- The archived official casualty listing records 'USS LCS(L)(3)-33 sunk by shore batteries off Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands, 19 February 1945' - an entry contradicted by the NavSource hull record (sunk by kamikaze attack 12 April 1945 at Radar Picket Station #1 off Okinawa) and by NHHC's own H-Gram 045 narrative. Secondary literature notes the ship's own action reports filed after the Iwo Jima operation prove she survived it; the discrepancy is recorded rather than silently reconciled.

- Finding type

- Finding
- The crew history of sister ship LCS(L)(3)-57 records that on 9 April she joined Cassin Young (DD-793) at a station off Iheya Shima with Purdy (DD-734) and LCSs 33, 114 and 115; at noon on 12 April the station was attacked by approximately 25 Japanese suicide planes, 'the LCS 33 was sunk close aboard,' and LCS(L)(3)-57, herself hit by three suiciders, proceeded with survivors of the LCS 33 to the Western Beaches off Okinawa.

[8]NavSource Online, LCS(L)(3)/LSSL class index [other_primary]
- Locator
- class index introductory paragraphs; hull list row 'LCS(L)(3)-33'
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- The class index records that 130 LCS(L)(3)s were built during World War II, developed by the George Lawley Company of Neponset, Massachusetts and produced there and by Albina Engine and Machine Works and Commercial Iron Works of Portland, Oregon; LCS(L)(3)s served only in the Pacific campaign, and those remaining in the U.S. Navy inventory were redesignated Landing Ship Support Large (LSSL) in 1949. This hull, sunk in 1945, never carried an LSSL designation.

- Finding
- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement record, asbestos-containing product identification, environmental record, or docketed case naming USS LCS(L)(3)-33 was found in the public sources searched (see search_ledger). The hull was a 1945 combat total loss and was never raised, repaired, or disposed of through channels that would generate materials documentation.

- Limitations
- Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - 1944 naval construction commonly used asbestos-containing insulation, gasket, and packing products, but no class or era document retrieved itemizes materials for this hull and none is asserted here. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.

- Finding
- Primary class construction documentation exists but was not located in digitized form: NavSource cites George Lawley & Sons Corporation's 'Instructions for LCS(L)(3) Class' and 'Original Plans of LCS(L)(3)' as its specification sources, and secondary literature cites this hull's own 1945 action reports and the LCS(L)(3)-57 action report for the 12 April action (NARA-era records). These are the candidate repositories for any materials or outfitting detail for this hull.
