- Primary Navy document establishing construction milestones and class characteristics - contains no asbestos or material-content information. Hulls already sunk by the 15 April 1945 data date (LCS(L)(3) 7, 26, 33, 49) are omitted from the list with 'Sunk'/'stricken' annotations. NavSource cites this same document as 'Navships 250-012, April 15 1945' - a mislabel: 250-012 is Volume III (auxiliaries/district craft); landing ships and craft are in Volume II, NAVSHIPS 250-011.

[6]NavSource class operational description for LCS(L)(3)/LSSL (text by Robin L. Rielly, National Association of USS LCS(L) 1-130 historian) [other_primary]
- Locator
- NavSource 10/05/05func.htm - LCS(L)(3) operational description
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- Class context: the LCS(L)(3) type was conceived after Tarawa (20 Nov 1943) for close-in fire support; based on the LCI(L) hull with redesigned superstructure; George Lawley & Sons, Neponset, performed the design work and produced the first ships; 130 built by Lawley, Albina Engine & Machine Works, and Commercial Iron Works (the latter two at Portland, OR); described as the most heavily armed gunboats of the war; used for fire support, radar picket duty, and fire fighting; in 1949 hulls still in the U.S. inventory were redesignated Landing Ship Support, Large (LSSL) - this hull, sold 14 November 1946, was out of the inventory before that reclassification and never held an LSSL number.

- asbestos_application
- Finding
- A 1944-built steel-hulled Navy combatant sits inside the Navy's documented asbestos-use era; era-standard asbestos applications aboard a diesel gunboat of this type and period were diesel-exhaust lagging, machinery/thermal insulation in machinery spaces, gaskets, valve packing, and electrical insulation. As an all-diesel vessel she carried no steam plant - the boiler/turbine lagging pathway of steam vessels does not apply.

- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or verified litigation naming USS LCS(L)(3)-8 was found in the public sources searched (see search_ledger). CourtListener opinion index returned zero hits for 'LCS(L)(3)-8', 'LSSL-8', and 'LCS(L)-8'; the docket index returned zero hits for 'LCS(L)(3)-8'; the 'LSSL-8' and 'LCS(L)-8' docket variants could not be run (fleet-wide hourly pacing budget exhausted at session end) - logged as blocked, not as negative results. Even the usual law-firm marketing material produced no hull-specific asbestos claim for this obscure numbered craft.

- Limitations
- Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - a 1944 combatant scrapped in 1946-47 predates all modern survey/abatement regimes, so none would be expected. Two docket-index query variants remain unrun (blocked) - the litigation sweep is partial, not complete. NARA RG 24 deck logs and the RG 38 original of her war history are undigitized open leads. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
