   Identity packet verdict: VERIFIED (designation) — hull never built. Tacoma-class patrol frigate authorized as patrol gunboat USS Vallejo (PG-205); reclassified PF-97 on 15 April 1943; renamed USS Lorain on 19 November 1943. Construction contract (American Shipbuilding Co., Lorain OH; MC Type S2-S2-AQ1) cancelled 11 February 1944 before keel laid. Never commissioned; no other identity borne. The name Lorain was simultaneously carried by ex-Roanoke PF-93 (renamed 7 Feb 1944), which is the commissioned Lorain of record.
