    Finding
The ship record specifies a complement of 5 officers and 54 enlisted, troop accommodations for 2 officers and 46 enlisted, and two Fairbanks Morse 38D81/8X10 diesel engines producing 2,800 shp through twin propellers; maximum speed is 13.2 knots.

Ship's company and troop accommodation capacity
    Limitations
The specification block does not identify insulation or other asbestos-containing materials. Diesel propulsion does not justify inferring any particular asbestos product aboard this hull.

    Finding
The 1979 GAO report reproduces Navy information that thermal insulation for machinery, equipment, and piping was a major Navy shipboard asbestos application and that asbestos was also used in piping gaskets and packing, pipe-hanger liners, deck material, galley ranges, and equipment brakes and clutches. This is Navy program and era evidence, not a record that any named product was installed aboard LSM-100.

    Population
U.S. Navy shipbuilding, repair, and shipboard personnel; 1979 program review
    Limitations
The report does not name LSM-100 or the LSM-1 class and supplies no hull-specific quantity, survey, present-day condition, individual exposure, or causation evidence. It cannot be upgraded to a ship-specific asbestos finding.

    Finding type
    historical_record
    Finding
No ship-specific asbestos document was located in the reviewed LSM-100 ship record, the GAO/Navy asbestos report, or the NARA public logbook index checked for the hull number. The result is a research negative, not a finding that asbestos was absent from the ship.

    Limitations
The negative is limited to the identified public sources. Firecrawl access was quota-blocked and CourtListener was not completed because of the authenticated fleet limiter; absence from this search does not prove absence of asbestos, litigation, or exposure evidence elsewhere.
