- Finding
- NavSource identifies this hull as an LSM-1-class Landing Ship Medium: laid down 30 May 1944 by Federal Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co., Newark, New Jersey; launched 30 June 1944; commissioned 18 July 1944 with LTjg. Zenas J. Kevorkian, USNR, in command. It records Asiatic-Pacific service in the Visayan Island landings (28 March 1945) and the Okinawa Gunto assault and occupation (1 April-17 June 1945), two World War II battle stars, reef damage at Okinawa on 13 October 1945, return to Pearl Harbor on 13 January 1946 as a submarine target-practice vessel, decommissioning and striking on 5 March 1946, and scuttling off Pearl Harbor on 6 March 1946. Its specifications give two Fairbanks Morse 38D81/8X10 direct-drive diesel engines, 1,440 BHP each, twin propellers, 2,800 shp, and a complement of five officers and 54 enlisted.

- Limitations
- This is a ship-history and specification record, not an asbestos inventory, survey, or exposure record. NavSource attributes its history extract to LSM-LSMR Amphibious Forces, Vol. II; no live individual NHHC DANFS page was located for this numbered hull.

- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- The uboat.net ship record independently gives 30 May 1944 laid-down, 30 June 1944 launch, and 18 July 1944 commissioning dates, and states that LSM-265 was decommissioned and stricken on 5 March 1946 and scuttled off Pearl Harbor on 6 March 1946.

- Finding type
- gov_survey
- Finding
- A 30 August-2 September 1944 industrial-health survey of Federal Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co. at Kearny documents insulators cutting and fitting asbestos pipe covering in confined shipyard spaces and records dust counts during that work. LSM-265 was built at Federal Shipbuilding in 1944, but had been commissioned on 18 July before the survey dates.

- Population
- Federal Shipbuilding insulators and pipefitters, Kearny, NJ
- Limitations
- Yard-level, not hull-level evidence: LSM-265 is not named, and the survey occurred after her commissioning, so it documents the builder's wartime asbestos-use environment rather than materials installed aboard this hull. The survey is not a worker health-outcome study and does not establish individual exposure, product quantity, or causation.

- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- Class/era inference only: LSM-265 was a 1944 diesel-powered LSM built at Federal Shipbuilding during its documented asbestos-use era. Potential era-consistent asbestos-relevant applications on a diesel vessel include machinery or exhaust insulation, gaskets, valve packing, and electrical insulation. Her documented propulsion was diesel, not a steam plant; boiler and turbine lagging are therefore not asserted for this hull.

- Limitations
- Inference from vessel type, propulsion, construction era, and builder-yard record only. No ship-specific material list, insulation survey, abatement record, or product identification was located. This row does not establish any listed material was installed aboard LSM-265, its quantity, condition, or individual exposure.

[6]Authenticated CourtListener API v4 sweep required queries: exact name "USS LSM-265" and hull number "LSM-265"; executed only through /Users/charlesfletcher/devin-prompts/cl-auth-search.py [court_record]
- Locator
- Helper output: 'authenticated request: type=o query_len=13'; no result payload returned within 30 seconds; CourtListener work stopped rather than bypassing the fleet limiter
- Finding type
- litigation_documented
- Finding
- The required authenticated CourtListener sweep is incomplete: the helper accepted the opinion request for the exact name but remained at the fleet pacing limiter without returning a result before the research window ended. No opinion or docket result is classified, and the separate hull-number query was not sent after the limiter stand-down.

- Limitations
- This is an access-gap finding, not a no-result finding. It establishes neither the presence nor absence of qualifying asbestos litigation, exposure, asbestos aboard, causation, product identity, or legal eligibility. Re-run exact-name and hull-number queries, for opinion and docket/RECAP types, through the authenticated helper when fleet pacing permits.
