    Finding
During World War II, USS LSM-35 participated in the Lingayen Gulf landing, 4-12 January 1945, and the Visayan Island landing, 2 April 1945. The hull page records postwar Far East occupation service 11 November-2 December 1945 and China service 3-21 December 1945; it also records two World War II battle stars. LSM-35 was decommissioned 10 May 1946 at Terminal Island, San Pedro, California, and was sold for scrapping 18 February 1948 to Hugo Neu Corp., New York, New York.

Ship's company and embarked personnel during listed operations
    Limitations
Supports the listed campaign, postwar-service, award, decommissioning, and stated sale facts only. NavSource states the Naval Register strike date is unknown and does not document the physical scrapping location or final condition. It provides no asbestos information.

    Finding
GAO's 1979 Navy-wide review reported that, according to Navy officials, all ships contained some asbestos in components including clutches and electric cables, and that thermal insulation had been the Navy's major shipboard asbestos use before specifications were changed in 1975. This is Navy-program context only; it does not identify LSM-35, whose 1948 sale predates the review.

Navy shipyard workers and Navy ships generally (GAO review context)
    Limitations
Navy-wide documentation from 1979, not a survey, material list, repair record, or finding for this 1944-48 hull. Direct Studio access to the official URL was blocked (HTTP 403); browser search retrieved the official text. It cannot establish that asbestos was installed, present, removed, or encountered aboard LSM-35, nor individual exposure, quantity, condition, or causation.

    Finding type
    historical_record
    Finding
No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record was located in the public sources completed: the live NavSource hull page contains no asbestos, survey, abatement, hazmat, or litigation documentation; no individual DANFS entry was located; and no NARA Catalog record was retrieved. CourtListener searches for the exact ship name and hull number were not completed because the authenticated fleet-wide pacing helper stood down before issuing a request.

    Limitations
The completed-source negative does not prove absence of asbestos or defeat an exposure claim. CourtListener was blocked by the shared authenticated pacing limiter before search execution, so litigation status remains incomplete rather than a CourtListener no-result.

    Locator
NARA Record Group 24 guide; archival path only
    Finding type
    historical_record
    Finding
Archival lead: NARA's guide to Record Group 24 identifies Records of the Bureau of Naval Personnel; deck logs and related Navy operational records require a record-level/series search or research-room retrieval. Relevant wartime deck logs and amphibious-command records could clarify LSM-35's operations and any repair or material documentation, but no box, file, or asbestos-specific document was retrieved.
