- Crew under Lt. F. O. Elliott (USNR) as of 1945-05-01
- Limitations
- Ship-specific administrative-presence documentation only; no asbestos or material content. The division assignment conflicts with the NavSource/Turner Publishing extract, which says Division Seventy-Four (see gaps); the NHHC document is the contemporaneous primary source and is carried. The document lists the CO as USNR; the NavSource extract says USN (see gaps).

- Documented for this hull: laid down 25 November 1944 at Brown Shipbuilding Co., Houston, TX; launched 16 December 1944; commissioned USS LSM-365 on 14 January 1945, Lt. Frank O. Elliott in command. Assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater (LSM Flotilla Thirteen, LSM Group Thirty-Seven, LSM Division Seventy-Four per this source) and participated in the Okinawa Gunto operation - assault and occupation of Okinawa Gunto, 21 to 30 June 1945. Decommissioned 16 September 1946 and laid up in the Reserve Fleet (photographed moored at Mobile Bay, AL, July 1946). Struck from the Naval Register, date unknown. Sold in December 1958 to Chesapeake Corp. of Virginia, West Point, VA, and converted to a barge; final fate unknown. Earned one battle star for World War II service. Commanding officers: Lt./Lt. Cdr. Frank O. Elliott USN (14 Jan 1945 - Nov 1945), Lt.(jg) Jesse W. Ivers Jr. USNR (Nov 1945 - Jun 1946), Lt.(jg) Paul J. Attanasio USNR (Jun 1946 - 16 Sep 1946). Photo captions document her at anchor off Iwo Jima 20 August 1945 (with LSM-71, LSM-284, LSM-290) awaiting orders to proceed to Japan, and beached at Okinawa in 1945.

- Population
- Brown Shipbuilding construction trades (Nov 1944 - Jan 1945); crew (Jan 1945 - Sep 1946); Chesapeake Corp. yard workers performing the 1958 barge conversion
- Limitations
- NavSource is a volunteer secondary compilation, not a primary registry - its milestone dates generally track NVR/DANFS but no DANFS entry exists for this hull to check against; the page's history extract is credited to Turner Publishing's LSM-LSMR Amphibious Forces Vol. II (1997). Stricken date 'unknown' here vs 14 January 1958 in secondary compilations (uboat.net) - see gaps. Division assignment (74) conflicts with the NHHC 1 May 1945 organization document (73) - see gaps. Contains no asbestos content; the 1958 barge conversion predates modern ACM-handling regulation and no material record for the conversion was located.

- Petty Officer Second Class Edward Clair Haning; LSM-365 crew (1944-46 window)
- Limitations
- Vessel-history fact only: establishes that a named individual served aboard this hull. It is NOT an exposure record - this record makes no asbestos claim for Mr. Haning or any individual; the collection's catalog entry contains no asbestos or medical content. Item is not digitized online; catalog metadata verified via the LoC JSON API.

[4]Era inference built on: NavSource specifications block (two Fairbanks Morse model 38D8-1/8x10 diesel engines, direct drive, 1,440 BHP each at 720 rpm, twin propellers 2,800 shp; two diesel-drive 100 kW 450 V A.C. and one diesel-drive 20 kW 120 V D.C. ship's-service generators); GAO HRD-80-2 (see ev-05) for the Navy-wide asbestos-use era spanning this hull's 1944-45 construction [other_primary]

- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- A diesel-powered landing ship built in late 1944 sits inside the Navy's documented asbestos-use era; era-standard applications aboard a vessel of this type and period were thermal insulation, machinery and diesel-exhaust lagging, gaskets, valve packing, and electrical insulation, concentrated around the engine room and auxiliary machinery. As a diesel ship she carried no steam plant - the boiler/steam-pipe lagging pathway of steam vessels does not apply.

- Finding type

- Finding
- GAO documented that the Navy used asbestos insulation extensively aboard ships and did not begin substituting alternative insulation materials until the early 1970s - spanning this hull's entire construction (1944) and Navy service era (1945-46, reserve to 1958).

[6]CourtListener API v4 searches, 2026-10-01 (authenticated, via fleet helper cl-auth-search.py): opinion and docket, queries listed in search_ledger rows sl-uss-lsm-365-lsm365-02 through -06 [court_record]
- Locator
- search_ledger rows sl-uss-lsm-365-lsm365-02 through -06
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or litigation naming USS LSM-365 was found in the public sources searched. CourtListener was fully searched this session - opinion search for "LSM-365", "LSM 365", and "USS LSM-365" and docket search for "LSM-365" and "LSM 365" all returned zero results (true negative, not blocked). Secondary web sweeps surfaced no qualifying case and no 'asbestos aboard LSM-365' marketing content for this hull at all.

- Limitations
- Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard. The zero-hit litigation result covers only CourtListener's corpus (opinions and dockets indexed there); state-court and PACER-only records are not covered. Deck logs (NARA RG 24), Brown Shipbuilding work packages, and any 1958 barge-conversion records are undigitized leads. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
