- Limitations
- Ship-specific historical and specification record, but the page identifies its history extract as a 1997 commercial unit-history compilation (Turner Publishing) rather than a Navy archival original. It contains no asbestos or insulation content and does not establish material condition, exposure, or causation. Post-sale fate is marked unknown; the Maritime Commission transfer date itself is given as 'date unknown' with disposal document PDX-225 dated 27 September 1946.

- Finding
- NARA-held visual records document this hull in combat: a frame from the film 'Invasion of Aka Jima--Rocket Fire, Landings' (NARA Identifier 78137, Local Identifier 428-NPC-7538) shows LSM(R)-196, -197, -198, and -199 conducting a rocket attack on the town of Aka, Aka-Jima, Kerama Islands, on 26 March 1945; photo 80-G-K-4723 shows USS LSM(R)-199 firing rockets during the invasion of Ie Shima on 16 April 1945 (Mt. Gosuki in background, probably photographed from USS West Virginia, BB-48); U.S. Navy photo N-26605 shows LSM(R)-196, LSM(R)-190, and LSM(R)-199 firing rockets off Tokishi Shima in March 1945. A U.S. Navy photo of the ship's officers on commissioning day, 12 December 1944 at Charleston Navy Yard, also exists; a Los Angeles Herald Express photo shows Groups 53/54 arriving at the Port of Los Angeles on 8 October 1945 with LSM(R)-199 identifiable.
