[2]NavSource Online, USS LST-1027 Amphibious Photo Archive page (currently extracted through web reader; direct HTTP request returned 406) [other_primary]
- Locator
- History and service timeline; final disposition and specifications sections
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- The archive page identifies LST-1027 as an LST-542-class tank landing ship; gives a laid-down date of 8 May 1944 at Bethlehem Steel Co., Quincy, Massachusetts; launch on 2 June 1944; and commissioning on 7 June 1944 under Lt. Paul H. Shropshire Jr., USNR. It lists Asiatic-Pacific operations at Leyte, Lingayen Gulf, Mindanao, and Tarakan, followed by occupation and China service; decommissioning on 4 September 1946; striking on 23 April 1947; sale to Bosey on 20 January 1947; and reports the vessel as MV Chung 107 in commercial service under the PRC flag in 1978, with final fate unknown.

- 1944-1946; post-sale report dated 1978
- Population
- Ship's company and wartime landing-force operations; no exposure population established
- Limitations
- This is a secondary naval-history/photo archive, not the ship's log or a Navy-authored DANFS entry. Direct HTTP access returned 406; the source page was readable through the web reader on the research date. Milestones and campaign claims are attributed to this page only. It contains no asbestos information and does not establish this hull's current condition or location.

[3]National Archives, Special List No. 44, Ship Numbers (Navy deck-log holdings index) [other_primary]
- Locator
- PDF page 35, entries for LST-1027
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- The NARA ship-number index lists two LST-1027 logbook entries spanning 7 June 1944 through 31 December 1945, showing that deck-log records for this hull are identified in the indexed holdings.

- Ship's company
- Limitations
- This is an index of records, not the deck logs themselves. The listed date range does not independently establish commissioning, presence at a particular operation, asbestos use, or exposure. Logs may require an archival request and may not be digitized.

[4]U.S. GAO, HRD-80-2, Navy Efforts To Protect Workers From Asbestos Exposure (1979), including Navy response at enclosure I [gao]
- Locator
- Enclosure I, pp. 10-11 of report PDF (Navy response dated 5 January 1979)
- Finding type
- gov_survey
- Finding
- In its 1979 response reproduced in the report, the Navy described thermal insulation for machinery, equipment, and piping as a major shipboard asbestos application and listed other general shipboard uses. The Navy stated that ship-specific thermal-insulation quantities could be obtained from individual-ship weight-control reports.

- 1979 report and response
- Population
- U.S. Navy ships discussed in the 1979 Navy response; not this hull specifically
- Limitations
- Fleet-level context only. The response does not name LST-1027, and its statement about ships then in service does not apply this finding to a ship decommissioned in 1946 and sold in 1947. No material, quantity, location, remaining ACM, or individual exposure aboard LST-1027 is established. The report points to individual-ship records as the needed evidence.

[5]Batch 6515 source review and search ledger for USS LST-1027 [other_primary]
- Locator
- See search_ledger entries sl-uss-lst-1027-lst1027-01 through sl-uss-lst-1027-lst1027-07
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- No ship-specific asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or asbestos finding was located in the accessible sources searched for this record. CourtListener litigation status remains unsearched because the authenticated helper's fleet pacing limiter refused the request before it reached the API; this is not a negative litigation result.

- Study period
- Research completed 2026-10-02
- Limitations
- A bounded public-source search cannot establish that no records exist. The CourtListener name-and-hull sweep was blocked before any API query completed, so litigation remains an open gap. Absence of a located document does not establish asbestos absence or presence aboard this vessel.
