- Limitations
- Archived official ship-history record, not a materials record. It provides no asbestos, machinery-room, repair, conversion, crew-complement, or post-sale-disposition detail; it does not establish asbestos presence, absence, quantity, exposure, causation, or legal eligibility.

[2]Bureau of Ships, Ships' Data, U.S. Naval Vessels, vol. 2 (1945), pp. 168-69 LST design table and p. 202 LST construction table (official document scan hosted by ShipScribe) [other_primary]

- Ships' Data vol. 2, pp. 168-69 (LST-980-1059 design group) and p. 202 (LST-1059 construction row)
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- The Bureau of Ships construction table identifies LST-1059 as built by Dravo Corporation, Neville Island, Pennsylvania, with dates 3 March 1945, 14 April 1945, and 17 May 1945. Its LST-980-1059 design-group table specifies two General Motors 12-567A diesel engines, 1,700 shaft horsepower, two propellers, a single Falk main reduction gear, and three 100-kW diesel-driven 230-V DC generators. The same table lists 13 officers and 106 enlisted accommodations for the design group and no boilers for that diesel group.

- Population
- Dravo construction workers (1945); prospective LST-980-1059 ship's-company complement
- Limitations
- The construction-table row is ship-specific for builder and dates; machinery, accommodation, and no-boiler details are design-group specifications for LST-980-1059, not a survey of this individual hull. The document does not identify asbestos-containing material, prove the installed configuration remained unchanged, or establish exposure, causation, or legal eligibility.

- GAO HRD-80-2 product-page Highlights and report search-result text; report published 1979-10-18
- Finding type
- gov_survey
- Finding
- GAO's 1979 Navy-wide review reports that asbestos was used in Navy ships, identifies thermal insulation as the Navy's major shipboard asbestos use, and states that the Navy issued its policy to eliminate asbestos and asbestos-containing materials where alternatives had been designated in October 1975 after specifications were revised to eliminate asbestos as acceptable thermal insulation.

- Navy shipyard workers and Navy ships reviewed at Long Beach and Norfolk Naval Shipyards
- Limitations
- This is Navy-wide 1979 program context, not documentation for LST-1059. It cannot establish asbestos aboard this hull, an installed product, its condition, an individual's exposure, causation, or legal eligibility. The GAO direct page returned HTTP 403 to command-line retrieval, but its live indexed product-page/report text was independently checked on 2026-10-02.

[4]Batch-6547 search ledger (this record): archived NHHC DANFS; BuShips Ships' Data; GAO HRD-80-2; NARA catalog search; authenticated CourtListener attempt; live-source checks [other_primary]

- search_ledger rows sl-uss-lst-1059-lst1059-01 through -06
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- No ship-specific asbestos survey, material schedule, abatement record, or hazmat disclosure naming USS LST-1059 was located in the public sources searched. The authenticated CourtListener sweep could not be completed: two exact-name opinion requests made through the fleet-paced helper were stopped before results when it reported that the shared request budget was momentarily spent.

- Limitations
- A limited public-record search and an incomplete litigation sweep do not prove asbestos was absent or that no case exists. State-court matters, non-digitized records, unreported settlements, unsearched NARA holdings, and CourtListener material unavailable during the pacing stand-down remain outside the completed record. This finding establishes neither exposure nor legal eligibility.
