[2]Naval History and Heritage Command, Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships (DANFS), LST-22, archived capture dated 2024-05-27; live NHHC URL returned HTTP 404 on 2026-10-02 [nhhc_danfs]

- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- DANFS states that LST-22 was laid down on 5 November 1942 at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, by Dravo Corporation; launched on 29 March 1943; sponsored by Mrs. W. A. Barnes; and commissioned on 29 May 1943, with Lieutenant L. N. Ditlefsen, USCG, in command. DANFS lists the ship's Asiatic-Pacific World War II operations as Saidor; Cape Gloucester; the Admiralty Islands; Hollandia; Toem-Wakde-Sarmi; Biak; Noemfoor; Cape Sansapor; Morotai; Leyte; and Lingayen. It states LST-22 returned to the United States, was decommissioned on 1 April 1946, stricken from the Navy list on 17 April 1946, sold to Ming-Sung Industrial Co., Ltd., of Shanghai on 3 February 1947 for conversion to merchant service, and earned six battle stars for World War II service.

- Limitations
- This is an archived capture of the official NHHC DANFS page because the live NHHC URL returned 404 at research time. The source gives no asbestos, material, survey, abatement, or exposure information, and does not establish the vessel's post-sale name, later location, or ultimate fate.

- PDF p. 41, entries labeled LST-22
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- The National Archives index lists Navy deck-log date ranges under LST-22 for 29 May-31 July 1943 and 1 October 1943-30 June 1945.

- Population
- Navy deck-log archival holdings for LST-22
- Limitations
- This is an index to deck-log holdings, not the logs themselves. It establishes indexed date coverage only; it does not verify events, crew exposure, asbestos, or material aboard. The two indexed ranges do not cover every date in the vessel's service.

[4]Bounded source review recorded in search ledger entries sl-uss-lst-22-lst22-01 through -05; no affirmative asbestos source located [other_primary]
- Locator
- See search_ledger entries sl-uss-lst-22-lst22-01 through -05
- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- No ship-specific asbestos documentation was located in the sources reviewed: no hull survey, asbestos material schedule, abatement record, environmental disclosure, or direct record identifying asbestos aboard LST-22. Asbestos products and ship-specific exposure remain unknown.

- Accessed
- 2026-10-02
- Limitations
- A bounded negative search is not proof that records do not exist. The supplied Tier 2 classification is retained as class/era-level status only; it does not establish asbestos presence aboard this hull, an individual exposure, causation, quantity, or present-day material condition. The live DANFS source contains no asbestos information; the deck-log index is not the underlying logs. Firecrawl search and scrape were unavailable because the shared keyless MCP quota was exhausted, and direct access to the Coast Guard history page was blocked.

[5]Authenticated CourtListener helper attempt for hull-number query; one broad docket result set returned, but sweep incomplete after fleet-wide pacing throttle [court_record]
- Locator
- Authenticated helper query "LST-22", docket search; helper throttle output recorded in batch research session
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- The authenticated CourtListener helper returned a broad 40-record result set for the quoted hull-number query. The output was not fully screened for ship-specific asbestos litigation before the helper subsequently reported that the fleet-wide request budget was momentarily spent. No qualifying case was verified in the portion reviewed; the litigation search is incomplete and is not a no-result finding.

- Accessed
- 2026-10-02
- Limitations
- Only the authenticated helper was used. After it reported a fleet-wide pacing throttle, CourtListener requests stopped as instructed. Exact-name searches and full review/classification of the broad hull-number result set remain outstanding. Do not treat this partial search as evidence that no litigation exists.
