- Volunteer-curated archive hosting Navy-source data; build/disposition dates agree with DANFS exactly. Specifications and campaign dates are archive compilation, consistent with BuShips-era class data but not independently verified against a primary document this session. Contains no asbestos content. Saipan campaign entry appears here but not in DANFS - attribution discrepancy noted in gaps, not resolved.

[4]USS LST 244 action report, LST 244/A16-3, 1 August 1944 (SECRET, declassified NDC/NARA 31 Dec 2012; NARA scan hosted by NavSource, contributed by William L. Williams), with first endorsement (CTG 53.16/ComLSTFlot5, 1 Aug 1944), third endorsement (ComPhibsPac, 12 Oct 1944), and fourth endorsement (ComFifthFleet, 15 Oct 1944) [other_primary]

- Finding
- Ship's own action report: on orders of CTG 53.16, LST-244 beached west of Asan, Guam (Red Beach) on 28 July 1944 unloading military cargo; hostile mortar fire fell among the beached ships from 1818; ordered to retract, the ship had difficulty because forward ballast tanks were completely filled; USS Apache (ATF 67) was ordered to close and aid retraction (line passed by line-throwing gun), but LST-244 retracted under her own power, stern anchor aweigh at 1922; no personnel casualties and no material damage; did not open fire as hostile positions were not clearly defined; lay out of range until 0630 King 29 July, then re-beached and resumed unloading. First endorsement praises 'the highly commendable and courageous manner in which the Commanding Officer, Officers, and Crew of LST 244 conducted themselves.'

- Population
- LST-244 ship's company (13 officers / ~104 enlisted) plus embarked troops during Guam unloading
- Limitations
- Primary combat record of this hull - documents beaching operations and damage status only; contains no asbestos, material, or industrial-hygiene content. The report is signed L. W. Aderhold, who does not appear on NavSource's commanding-officer list for the ship (LT. John F. Kramer, USNR, is listed for 1944) - signature discrepancy noted in gaps, not resolved. Second endorsement page not individually transcribed (administrative forwarding only).

[5]Consolidated class/era inference - LST-1-class diesel machinery data (NavSource specifications, this record) + era amphibious-ship construction practice (fleet class profile, lst-1-class) [other_primary]

- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- Era/design inference for this diesel-powered LST: no boilers - asbestos-relevant applications would have been GM diesel engine and exhaust lagging and gaskets, engine-room thermal/acoustic insulation, deck coverings/tile, bulkhead and accommodation insulation, valve packing, and winch/windlass brake linings - the era-standard applications for WWII amphibious construction.

- Limitations
- Class/era inference only - no hull-specific material schedule, survey, or asbestos record was located for LST-244 or for any LST-1-class member. Establishes no quantities, no remaining material (ship scrapped 1948), and no exposure for any individual. The fleet class profile's machinery citation (BuShips Ships' Data 1945 Vol. 2 via shipscribe.com) returned HTTP 404 at research time and is not carried as a citation here (see search_ledger sl-uss-lst-244-lst244-07).

[6]Correction keyed to DANFS build dates vs Wikipedia 'List of shipwrecks in June 1943' (22 June 1943 entry, USS LST-333) [nhhc_danfs]
- Locator
- DANFS build-date paragraph vs en.wikipedia.org 'List of shipwrecks in June 1943', 22 June entry
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- Wikipedia's 'List of shipwrecks in June 1943' states that LST-333, torpedoed by U-593 off Cape Corbelin, Algeria, on 22 June 1943, was 'taken in tow by USS LST-19 and USS LST-244.' This attribution is chronologically impossible: on 22 June 1943 LST-244 was on the ways at Evansville, Indiana (laid down 1 May 1943; launched 14 July 1943; commissioned 13 August 1943, per DANFS), and DANFS assigns her exclusively to the Asiatic-Pacific theater from November 1943. The claim is EXCLUDED from this record.

- Limitations
- Correction rests on DANFS dates (primary, live-verified) against a tertiary wiki list; the correct towing vessel(s) were not independently established and are not asserted here. Exclusion of the misattribution does not affect any other fact in this record.

- Locator

- Finding type
- litigation_documented
- Finding
- No qualifying asbestos litigation naming LST-244 was located: CourtListener opinion searches for "LST-244" and the unhyphenated variant "LST 244" each returned 0 results, and a docket (RECAP) search for "LST-244" returned 0 results. No name-collision risk - 'LST-244' is a unique hull designation.

- Limitations
- Negative finding limited to CourtListener's opinion and RECAP docket indexes for the hull designation; the unhyphenated docket variant ('LST 244' type=docket) could not be run - the fleet pacing budget was spent when attempted (logged in search_ledger). Absence of a docketed case does not establish absence of claims filed, settled, or never docketed, and establishes nothing about asbestos conditions aboard.

- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or material schedule naming LST-244 was found in the public sources searched (see search_ledger). The hull was scrapped in 1948, so no museum, donor-condition, or present-day survey channel exists.

- Limitations
- Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - WWII amphibious construction of the era commonly used asbestos-containing insulation products. Does not establish that asbestos is or was present in any quantity, and does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility. NARA deck logs (RG 24) were not retrieved - see search_ledger sl-uss-lst-244-lst244-04.
