Assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific theater; operations listed: occupation of Kwajalein and Majuro Atolls (January-February 1944); occupation of Eniwetok Atoll (February-March 1944); capture and occupation of Saipan (June-July 1944); Tinian capture and occupation (July 1944); capture and occupation of southern Palau Islands (September-October 1944); Lingayen Gulf landing (January 1945). Returned to the United States; decommissioned 16 August 1946; struck from the Navy list 25 September 1946; sold 5 April 1948 to the Bethlehem Steel Co., of Bethlehem, Pa., for scrapping. Earned five battle stars for World War II service.

Ship-specific operational history; contains no asbestos or material content. DANFS names Lt. Parsons for 17 September - 7 October 1943 - an unresolved source conflict carried in gaps. Campaign phrasing is operation-level, not a day-by-day presence record.

American Bridge manufactured 199 LST's' at its Ambridge, PA plant, alongside aviation repair vessels, Essex-class carrier components, auxiliary carriers, C-type cargo ships, tankers, cargo lighters, and barges. The Ambridge plant - the facility that built this hull - was a dedicated wartime naval-production yard.

Peer-reviewed documentation of the era in which this hull was built: the paper 'focuses on the extensive use of asbestos as a fireproofing and insulating material in shipbuilding in the 1940s, when World War II industrial expansion brought about a hitherto unprecedented rise in the amount of asbestos utilized,' and examines U.S. Navy-era policy on asbestos in wartime shipbuilding (its references include E. Brown, 'Industrial hygiene and the Navy in national defense,' War Medicine 1:3-14 (1941)). Establishes the documented shipbuilding-asbestos era covering this hull's 1943 construction.

GAO reviewed Navy use of asbestos in ships and documented the program history: the Navy's 1975 policy was to remove and replace asbestos insulation only when damaged or when removal was needed for repairs, modified in 1979 to selective replacement in high-maintenance areas - confirming extensive original-era asbestos insulation aboard Navy ships of this hull's era. Fieldwork yards were Long Beach and Norfolk Naval Shipyards.

Era-standard asbestos applications aboard a diesel-powered LST-1-class tank landing ship of 1943 construction: diesel exhaust lagging, engine-room thermal and acoustic insulation, gaskets and valve packing, deck coverings and tile, bulkhead and accommodation insulation, winch/crane brake linings, and electrical insulation. The diesel plant means no boilers - the boiler/steam-line lagging pathway of steam vessels does not apply to this hull.

No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or litigation naming USS LST-272 / LST-272 was found in the public sources searched (see search_ledger). CourtListener was searched this session via the authenticated helper: 'LST-272', 'LST 272', and 'USS LST-272' opinion searches (type=o) all returned zero; the 'LST-272' docket search (type=r) returned two hits, both name collisions on the search string, neither naming the vessel - Seasons Express Inwood LLC (Bankr.
