- Ship History entry, paragraphs 1–4
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- NHHC states LST-386 was laid down on 9 June 1942 at Newport News Shipbuilding & Drydock Co., launched on 28 September 1942, and commissioned on 10 November 1942. It lists Tunisian operations (November 1942–July 1943), the Sicilian occupation (July 1943), Salerno landings (September 1943), Anzio-Nettuno advanced landings (February–March 1944), and the invasion of Normandy (June 1944). The ship was transferred to the United Kingdom on 9 December 1944, struck from the Navy list on 15 October 1946, returned to U.S. Navy custody and decommissioned on 10 December 1946, then sold to Frozen Foods, Scotland, and converted for merchant service on 5 June 1947. NHHC states that it earned five World War II battle stars.

- Limitations
- Supports only the ship history and dates stated in the DANFS entry. It does not identify asbestos aboard, describe machinery or insulation materials, establish individual exposure, or document the vessel’s later merchant history or present location.

- ‘Continuing Research’ → ‘Cartographic Branch (Includes Blueprints & Engineering Drawings)’
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- The National Archives research guide explains that ship engineering drawings in RG 19 are arranged by hull number and ship material group and identifies insulation and lagging (S39) and piping (S48) as potentially useful drawing groups. This is an archival research path for LST-386; the guide does not state that asbestos was present aboard this ship.

- Ship construction in 1942; archival records coverage varies
- Limitations
- Research guidance only; it is not a record of LST-386, does not establish that responsive drawings survive or are digitized, and does not establish asbestos content. Ship-specific RG 19 drawing and correspondence review remains outstanding.

[4]Authenticated CourtListener API v4 search via fleet helper; exact phrase ‘USS LST-386’, opinion search, 2026-10-02 [court_record]
- Locator
- CourtListener API v4 opinion search result: count 0, next null
- Finding type
- litigation_documented
- Finding
- The authenticated CourtListener opinion search for the exact phrase ‘USS LST-386’ returned zero results. This search did not locate a qualifying asbestos opinion under that exact phrase.

- CourtListener index searched 2026-10-02
- Limitations
- A zero-result exact-phrase opinion search does not establish that no litigation exists. The exact docket search and the hull-number opinion search were not completed because the authenticated helper repeatedly imposed the fleet pacing stand-down; docket results and cases using alternate ship identifiers remain unreviewed.
