- Finding
- During World War II, LST-390 served in the Asiatic-Pacific theater in the occupation and defense of Cape Torokina in November and December 1943, the capture and occupation of Saipan in June 1944, and the capture and occupation of Iwo Jima in February 1945. After the war it performed Far East occupation duty until early March 1946, was decommissioned on 12 March 1946, struck on 29 September 1947, and sold to Consolidated Builders, Inc., on 3 April 1948 for subsequent scrapping. DANFS records three battle stars and the Navy Unit Commendation.

- Finding
- NavSource's LST-390 page identifies the vessel as an LST-1-class tank landing ship and reports 13 officers and 104 enlisted in the ship's company, accommodations for 16 officers and 147 enlisted troops, two General Motors 12-567A 900-hp diesel engines, a Falk main reduction gear, three diesel-drive 100-kW 230V DC ship-service generators, twin propellers, 1,700 shp, and a 11.6-knot trial speed. It also records postwar occupation periods of 22 October-14 December 1945 and 2 January-12 March 1946, redesignation Q096 after decommissioning, and final sale on 3 April 1948.

- Limitations
- NavSource is an archival photo/history compilation rather than a Navy-maintained register. Its equipment specifications do not state asbestos content and do not establish exposure or present-day material condition.

- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- NARA Special List No. 44 lists LST-390 deck-log coverage for 28 November-31 December 1942, 22 April-31 May 1943, and 1 September 1943-31 May 1945. These are hull-specific archival leads for operational records.

- Limitations
- The list establishes the existence and date coverage of deck-log holdings, not their contents. The logs were not individually inspected and do not constitute asbestos documentation by themselves.

- Article title and historical discussion of WWII shipbuilding; DOI landing page
- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- Peer-reviewed historical scholarship documents extensive asbestos use in WWII-era U.S. shipbuilding and protective measures during the period in which LST-390 was constructed. This supports class/era context only; it does not identify a product or installation aboard LST-390.

- Population
- WWII-era U.S. shipyard workers and naval crews
- Limitations
- Era-level scholarship does not name LST-390 and does not establish any specific asbestos-containing product, location, quantity, condition, individual exposure, or causation aboard this hull. DOI access returned an automated 403, so the citation was retained as a bibliographic lead rather than treated as hull-specific proof.

- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record was located in the searched public sources: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or publicly located litigation record naming USS LST-390 or LST-390 as a hull was found. The available DANFS, NavSource, and NARA catalog materials do not state that asbestos was aboard this vessel.

- Limitations
- A failure to locate a public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard. CourtListener returned 200/no-result for exact-name opinions and dockets and the exact hull-number opinion search; the hull-number docket and asbestos-qualified requests were blocked by the fleet pacing budget. State-court and unindexed records are also outside the search. No exposure claim is established or defeated.
