- Finding
- DANFS records LST-399 laid down on 28 September 1942 at Newport News Shipbuilding & Drydock Co., launched on 23 November 1942, and commissioned on 4 January 1943. During World War II it served in the Asiatic-Pacific theater and participated in New Georgia-Rendova-Vangunu (July 1943), Vella Lavella (August 1943), Treasury Island (October-November 1943), Guam (July 1944), Iwo Jima (February 1945), and Okinawa (April 1945). It performed occupation duty in the Far East in fall 1945 and was decommissioned on 8 December 1945. It served with the Military Sealift Command as USNS LST-399 (T-LST-399) from 31 March 1952, was struck from the Navy list on 1 November 1973, and DANFS says it was subsequently scrapped. DANFS credits five battle stars and the Navy Unit Commendation for World War II service.

[3]Batch-6940 search ledger (this record): archived DANFS entry; NARA Special List 44; NHHC indexed-photo search result; authenticated CourtListener helper access attempts [other_primary]

- search_ledger rows sl-uss-lst-399-lst399-01 through sl-uss-lst-399-lst399-08
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos survey, abatement record, or hazardous-material disclosure was located in the official historical sources reviewed for this record. CourtListener exact-name and hull-number requests were not completed because the authenticated helper reported that the shared request budget was momentarily spent; no litigation result is claimed.

- Limitations
- This records the limited public-source search performed, not proof that asbestos was absent. The sources were not asbestos surveys. CourtListener's required exact-name and hull-number searches remain incomplete because the helper returned fleet pacing guidance; litigation findings cannot be drawn from that attempt. No ship-specific asbestos presence, absence, exposure, or legal eligibility is established.
