    Finding
The archived NHHC DANFS entry states that LST-47 was laid down on 30 July 1943 at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, by Dravo Corporation; launched on 24 September 1943; sponsored by Mrs. Clarence H. Vant; and commissioned on 8 November 1943. DANFS records service in the European theater, participation in the Normandy invasion in June 1944 and the invasion of southern France in August and September 1944, transfer to the Asiatic-Pacific theater, participation in the Okinawa assault from 26 to 30 June 1945, and occupation duty in the Far East through early January 1946. DANFS states that LST-47 was decommissioned on 11 January 1946 and transferred to the U.S. Army the same day; assigned to the Military Sea Transportation Service on 31 March 1952 and redesignated USNS LST-47; and transferred to the Philippine Navy on 13 September 1976. DANFS records three World War II battle stars.

Supports the listed identity, dates, service events, transfer, and battle-star count only. The live NHHC page returned 404 on 2026-10-02; cited text is an archived 2025-12-09 capture. The entry does not state crew complement, propulsion details, asbestos materials, or the ship's later Philippine service or final disposition.

    historical_record
    Finding
NARA Special List #44 deck-log index has an entry rendered as LST-47S, dated 20 March 1943 through 30 June 1945. The designation is not an exact match for LST-47, and the indexed start date precedes the 30 July 1943 keel-laying date in NHHC DANFS. The index entry is therefore not treated as verified deck-log coverage for this hull; the underlying log record was not retrieved.

    Limitations
The index label and dates may reflect a typographical, cataloging, or identification issue. Without the underlying log record, this does not establish that the listed logs belong to LST-47 or that the ship was in service before its documented construction.

    Finding
NARA's research guide on asbestos aboard U.S. naval vessels describes a research path that includes hull-specific records, class correspondence, shipyard correspondence, and technical filing codes. This record is retained as an archival research lead; it does not state that an asbestos document for LST-47 was located.

    Limitations
Research guidance only. No LST-47 hull file, class correspondence, or Dravo shipyard correspondence was retrieved; the guide supports no asbestos finding for this vessel.

    Finding type

    Finding
No qualifying ship-specific asbestos survey, abatement record, hazmat disclosure, or other direct asbestos-material record for LST-47 was located in the public sources reviewed: the archived NHHC DANFS entry, NARA asbestos research guide, NARA Special List #44, and NARA published deck-log resources. Asbestos aboard this hull remains unknown.

    Limitations
A public-source search that locates no record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard. No material sampling, complete archival survey, or hull inspection was performed. NARA research guidance is a research path, not evidence of asbestos aboard.
