- GAO product page, Highlights
- Finding type
- gov_survey
- Finding
- GAO's Navy-wide review states that the Navy's 1975 policy removed and replaced with nonasbestos materials only insulation that was damaged or had to be removed for repairs; the policy was modified in 1979 to selectively replace asbestos insulation in high-maintenance areas. GAO reviewed Navy asbestos use and worker protection at Long Beach and Norfolk Naval Shipyards.

- Population
- Navy shipyard workers and Navy asbestos-protection program
- Limitations
- Program- and shipyard-level evidence only, not evidence about LST-520, her builder, or her maintenance history. It does not establish that any asbestos-containing material was installed, retained, removed, or disturbed aboard this hull; it does not establish individual exposure, causation, quantity, or legal eligibility.

[4]Authenticated CourtListener API v4 sweep via fleet helper: hull-number opinion query "LST-520"; exact-name docket query "USS LST-520" attempted [court_record]
- Locator
- Helper output: authenticated hull-number opinion query returned count 0; exact-name docket query returned fleet-pacing stand-down guidance
- Finding type
- litigation_documented
- Finding
- The authenticated CourtListener opinion search for the exact hull-number phrase "LST-520" returned zero results. The required exact-name docket search for "USS LST-520" could not complete because the fleet helper reported that the shared paced request budget was momentarily spent.

- 2026-10-02 litigation search
- Population
- n/a
- Limitations
- The zero-result finding applies only to the completed hull-number opinion query; it is not a finding that no litigation exists. Exact-name opinion and hull-number docket coverage, and the exact-name docket result, remain incomplete because the helper directed researchers not to retry while the shared pacing budget was exhausted. No qualifying asbestos litigation is asserted.
