It served in the Asiatic-Pacific theater in the southern Palau Islands, Leyte, Zambales-Subic Bay, and Okinawa operations; sustained serious damage after grounding off Wakayama, Japan, on 18 September 1945; performed occupation duty in the Far East until early January 1946; was decommissioned on 6 January 1946 and struck from the Navy list on 21 January 1946; and had its hulk destroyed by gunfire on 26 January 1946. DANFS states that it earned four battle stars for World War II service.

    Limitations
This is a bounded finding about the one historical entry reviewed, not proof that asbestos was absent or that no other records exist. CourtListener exact-name searches returned no results, but the hull-number opinion search returned a broad set of 169 results; only the first 20 were inspected and their captions were unrelated case names, so a complete hull-number screen remains unfinished. The hull-number docket search was blocked by the helper's pacing limiter. Firecrawl searching was unavailable because its keyless MCP quota was exhausted. No asbestos exposure should be inferred from the vessel's class, age, or machinery.
