The official BuShips roster lists 'LST570' built by 'Missouri Valley B. & I. Co., Evansville, Ind.': keel laid 14 Apr 44, launched 24 May 44, commissioned 9 Jun 44. The volume's LST design table documents the class plant: approximately 328 ft oa, 50 ft beam, ~2,366 t light / 3,960-4,080 t trial, 11.6 kt, 2 x General Motors 12-567A diesels ~1,700 shp (per class profile extraction; the 542-group carries the 12-567A, not the 12-278A of blocks 932-979/1060-1080).

    Finding
A scanned official deck log of USS Lesuth (AK-125) documents this hull's presence at Peleliu, Palau Islands, in the forward-staging window: Thursday 2 November 1944, 8-12 watch - '1150 LST #570 came alongside port side'; 12-16 watch - '1256 Commenced loading rolling cargo from LST #570.' Friday 3 November 1944, 0-4 watch - 'Underway on various courses and speeds in unloading area, Peleliu Island, Palau Island, Caroline Islands, discharging cargo from #4 hold into LST 570 alongside port side... S.O.P.A. in U.S.S. LESUTH'; 8-12 watch - '1123. Cast off LST 570 from port side.' This places LST-570 in the Western Carolines logistics chain roughly two months before the Lingayen Gulf landings.

The scan is hosted by a private document archive (sobco.com Chapman ships-logs collection), not NARA - underlying log is an official record but this copy is a private-host surrogate; RG 24 deck logs for this hull's era are not publicly digitized (see gaps).

    Finding
A diesel-powered LST-542-class tank landing ship built April-June 1944 sits inside the Navy's documented asbestos-use era; era-standard applications aboard a vessel of this type and period were diesel-engine exhaust lagging and gaskets, engine-room thermal and acoustic insulation, deck coverings and tile, bulkhead and accommodation insulation, valve packing, and winch/crane brake linings - concentrated in confined below-deck machinery spaces and crew accommodation. As a diesel ship she carried no steam plant: the boiler/turbine lagging pathway of steam vessels does not apply, but the shipyard-era fitting-out and crew-service exposure dynamic applies within the enclosed 328-ft hull.

    Finding
DISPUTED RECORD - not adopted as ship history: the Arnold Hague Convoy Database's FCM.21 convoy page (Seine Bay to Falmouth, 2 July-3 July 1944, 33 ships) lists 'LST 570' with cargo '440 PoWs', and Wikipedia's USS LST-570 article repeats the claim citing this database. The attribution cannot be this hull: she was commissioned 9 June 1944 at Evansville, Indiana (DANFS, BuShips roster, NavSource) - a Seine Bay departure 23 days later is physically implausible (~1,000 river miles to New Orleans plus a ~4,700-nm Atlantic crossing at ~9-11 kt could not complete in that window even with no fitting-out or shakedown). Her awards display carries no Europe-Africa-Middle East Campaign Medal (NavSource), and DANFS records only the Asiatic-Pacific assignment. FCM.21 did carry genuine LST-542-class hulls (LST 504, LST 535, LST 539, LST 541) plus LST 21 - most plausibly a hull-number transcription error in the convoy record or its extraction. NOT adopted; carried as a documented dispute.

    Finding
An occupational-disease claim arising from this hull's builder yard in her construction season: the estate of Elbert Woolsey, employed by Missouri Valley Bridge & Iron as 'a pipe fitter in the compartment of ships from June 21, 1944 to November 11, 1944' (he died 29 October 1945), sought compensation under the Indiana Workmen's Occupational Diseases Act alleging death 'from inhaling fumes and gases from galvanized metal being welded.' The Industrial Board (two members dissenting) found no occupational disease arising out of employment; the Court of Appeals affirmed the denial in banc. The employment window begins twelve days after this hull's 9 June 1944 commissioning and covers construction of her sister hulls - the case documents the confined-compartment fitting trades working LST hulls at this yard in 1944.

CourtListener returned zero results for 'LST-570' and 'LST 570' in both the opinion (type=o) and RECAP docket (type=r) indexes - a completed negative result, not a blocked search. Secondary web sweeps surfaced no qualifying case and no marketing-page claim for this hull (unlike sister batches, no law-firm listicle covers LST-570). The only court opinion tied to this hull's builder is Woolsey v. MVB&I (ev-08) - a welding-fume occupational-disease claim decided against the claimant, not an asbestos record.

Deck logs, MVB&I work packages, MARAD custody cards (JS-blocked), and any Patapsco scrapping-contract records are undigitized leads. A supplementary CourtListener sweep for 'Patapsco Scrap' asbestos also returned zero opinions (completed on third attempt after two fleet-pacer deferrals).
