The ship's Lingayen Gulf action report (downloaded and OCR-read this session; key page also verified by direct image display) documents: underway from Manus Island 27 December 1944 under COMDESRON 49 Secret Movement Plan No. 1-44 for the Lingayen assault, S-Day 9 January 1945; repeated convoy air attacks by Val-type aircraft (one crash-dived a CVE on S-2 evening); on S-Day the ship opened fire at 4000 yards with 5-20MM and 3-40MM; beached and unloaded S+1; on S+3 morning (12 January) suffered a near miss 25 yards off the starboard bow at 0634, wounding one Gunners Mate of No. 1 40MM in the arm and damaging compartments A-303-M, A-404-V, and A-402-V (bomb judged 100-lb anti-personnel type); departed with a Leyte Gulf-bound convoy on the evening of S+3. Ammunition expended: 639 rounds 20MM, 281 rounds 40MM. The report's final page records verbatim: 'Enroute from Manus Island, Admirality [sic] Islands the Captain, D. P. SPENCER, Lieut. USNR died on 31 December 1945 [sic] and was buried at sea on 31 December 1944 at Long. 137 deg 57 min E lat, 03 deg 58 min N. The Executive Officer assumed command.' - the printed death-year '1945' is an internal typo contradicted by the same sentence's burial date and the NavSource CO table (Hearne commanding from December 1944).

The Okinawa action report (all 8 pages OCR-read; Part VI page verified by direct image display) documents: troops embarked at Purvis Bay, Guadalcanal, 10 March 1945 and at Ulithi 22 March 1945 - '3rd Bn, 15th Marines 6th MARDIV 518th DUKW Company. The 3rd Amphibious Corps, U.S. Army' (the report's own wording), 533 troops; cargo of vehicles, DUKWs, 105MM artillery pieces with 7,000 rounds, 660 tons, plus 40 tons of hydrographic equipment (buoys, concrete clumps, chain); cargo loaded at Guadalcanal and hydrographic gear at Tulagi 5-6 March 1945. Troops disembarked at the objective on LOVE day (1 April) and LOVE+2; cargo unloaded LOVE, LOVE+1, LOVE+2, and LOVE+8. The ship accounted for two enemy planes on LOVE+5 (6 April) - one at approximately 1600 by the forward 40MM gun, one at approximately 1700 by 40MM/20MM fire - during mass air attacks on shipping at the objective area; both planes observed to crash into the sea; 'suicidal tendencies were shown by enemy pilots.' No damage and no ordnance derangement; ammunition expended 249 rounds 40MM and 505 rounds 20MM. The endorsement chain (ComLSTGrp 42, 6 May, noting detachment from Task Unit 53.3.3 on 5 April 1945; LST Flotilla EIGHT, 4 June; LST Flotilla THREE, A. A. Ageton, 16 June; ComLSTFlot SIX / CTG 53.3, J. S. Laidlaw; ComPhibGrp FOUR / CTG 53; ComPhibsPac / CTF 51) documents the operational routing for the Okinawa assault.

S. W. Hearne, USNR (matching the NavSource unit table and the action-report endorsement chain's CTG 53.3 = ComLSTFlot SIX); and photo NH 79015-A documents the ship in San Francisco Bay in 1945-46, consistent with the post-occupation return and 14 May 1946 decommissioning.

Era inference for this hull: the LST-542 design group ran a diesel plant (2 x GM 12-567A diesels, 1,700 shp total, Falk reduction gear, twin screws - BuShips design table and this hull's NavSource spec block) with no boilers, so the steam-plant lagging pathway of boiler vessels does not apply. Asbestos-relevant applications aboard a 1944 diesel landing ship of this type were the era-standard set - diesel-exhaust and machinery-space lagging, gaskets and packing, accommodation thermal insulation, and deck coverings.
