[2]Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships, LST-582 (archived NHHC/DANFS page; live URL returned HTTP 404 on 2026-10-02) [nhhc_danfs]
- Locator
- DANFS entry, full text; archived capture timestamp 2021-03-04T00:32:44Z
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- LST-582 was laid down on 1944-05-18 at Evansville, Indiana, by Missouri Valley Bridge & Iron Co.; launched on 1944-07-01; and commissioned on 1944-07-31. In World War II it served in the Asiatic-Pacific theater and participated in the assault and occupation of Okinawa Gunto in April 1945. It performed postwar occupation duty in the Far East until late January 1946; was decommissioned on 1946-01-29; struck from the Navy list on 1947-10-31; and sold to Consolidated Builders, Inc., for scrapping on 1948-05-24. DANFS credits one World War II battle star.

- Population
- U.S. Navy vessel and crew
- Limitations
- Archived copy of the official NHHC/DANFS page because the current history.navy.mil URL returned HTTP 404 on 2026-10-02. DANFS does not state that asbestos was aboard, identify the class designation, propulsion machinery, or crew complement, document completion of scrapping, or describe an individual exposure.

- Locator
- PDF p. 48, ship-number table row LST-582

- Limitations
- This is an archival inventory entry, not the deck logs themselves. It establishes listed record coverage only and does not establish what the logs contain or document asbestos or exposure.

[4]Negative finding from this research pass; see search_ledger entries [other_primary]
- Locator
- Search ledger entries sl-uss-lst-582-lst582-01 through -04
- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- No ship-specific asbestos survey, abatement record, or Navy statement naming asbestos aboard LST-582 was located in the sources searched for this pass.

- Research reviewed through 2026-10-02
- Population
- U.S. Navy vessel
- Limitations
- This is a bounded search result, not proof that asbestos was absent. DANFS contains no asbestos statement; NARA Special List 44 is an inventory rather than the underlying logs. CourtListener search is incomplete until authenticated name and hull-number queries can pass the fleet limiter. No asbestos quantity, product, individual exposure, or causation is established.
