- Documented for this hull: 'LST-619 was laid down on 8 March 1944 at Seneca, Ill., by the Chicago Bridge & Iron Co.; launched on 22 May 1944; sponsored by Mrs. Walter B. Colby; and commissioned on 5 June 1944.' Assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific theater; participated in the Leyte landings (October and November 1944), Mindoro landings (December 1944), Palawan Island landings (March 1945), and Visayan Island landings (March 1945). 'Following the war, LST-619 performed occupation duty in the Far East until mid-April 1946. Upon her return to the United States, she was decommissioned on 19 June 1946 and struck from the Navy list on 31 October 1947. On 27 May 1948, the ship was sold to Consolidated Builders, Inc., Seattle, Wash., for scrapping. LST-619 earned three battle stars for World War II service.'

- Finding type

- Finding
- Third-source corroboration of this hull's build data: ShipbuildingHistory's CB&I Seneca yard table lists LST-619, US Navy landing ship tank, laid 3/8/44, launched 5/22/44, delivered/commissioned 6/5/44 - 75 days on the ways, 14 days fitting out, 89 days total - with disposition 'Scrapped 1947'. The yard narrative documents that the Navy requisitioned the CB&I facility at Seneca, IL, in 1942 and invested $6 million in improvements; the 200-acre 'Prairie Shipyard' was sold to Union Mechling in 1949. Trade-press coverage documents the inland-yard program this hull came from: 'some 580' LSTs were built at the inland yards of Dravo (Neville Island PA), American Bridge (Ambridge PA), JeffBoat (New Albany IN), and Chicago Bridge & Iron (Seneca IL) - the 'cornfield' yards whose hulls were piloted downriver to the Gulf by the 'Catfish Navy' of inducted river pilots.

The same volume's LST design table places her in the LST542-931 design group: 328'0" overall, 316'0" waterline, 50'0" beam, 2,366-ton beaching / 4,080-ton full-load displacement figures, 11.6 knots, machinery 2 x 'G. M. Diesel, 12-567A' at 1,700 shp - a diesel plant, no boilers.

- Official Navy historical material documents the organization this hull was assigned to after decommissioning: 'ScaJap, or the Shipping Control Administration Japan. Operating under the orders of Commander Naval Forces Far East, ScaJap provided logistic support for the Occupation forces with its fleet of Japanese-crewed ships, most of which were former U.S. Navy Landing Ships Tank, or LSTs.' Program context (secondary corroboration): a December 1945 Tokyo conference recommended ~100 LSTs be made available to SCAJAP for repatriation, converted in Japan to carry repatriates and crewed by Japanese; 100 LSTs were received, 85 retained for repatriation.

- Finding
- BuShips' official 1945 design data places this hull in the LST542-931 design group: 328 ft oa, 50 ft beam, ~2,366 t beaching / ~4,080 t full-load displacement, 11.6 kt, 2 x GM 12-567A diesels at 1,700 shp - a diesel plant with no boilers. For a diesel-powered LST of this era, the asbestos-relevant applications (era/design inference) were: diesel exhaust lagging and gaskets on the GM engines, engine-room thermal and acoustic insulation, deck coverings/tile, bulkhead and accommodation insulation, and winch/crane brake linings. The boiler/steam-line lagging pathway of steam vessels does not apply.

- Finding
- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, museum record, or litigation naming USS LST-619 was found in the public sources searched (see search_ledger). Web sweeps returned only reference and memorial pages - unlike most hulls in this database, not even law-firm marketing pages assert asbestos aboard this ship. CourtListener (authenticated API v4, 2026-10-02, complete sweep): phrase-quoted opinion searches "LST-619", "USS LST-619", and "LST 619" each returned ZERO results; an unquoted 'LST-619' opinion search returned 112 raw hits, all token collisions on docket numbers and serial strings with no vessel references; both docket searches ("LST-619" and "LST 619") returned the same single name collision - In re Seroquel Products Liability Litigation (M.D. Fla., MDL), an OCR-noise match inside a pharmaceutical exhibit, not a vessel reference and not asbestos litigation.

The litigation sweep is complete for name- and hull-indexed sources: phrase searches on opinion and docket indexes are clean except one documented name collision; coverage is limited to what CourtListener indexes (RECAP dockets and published opinions - unindexed state-court and non-RECAP pleadings are outside scope). Deck logs (RG 24), CB&I work packages, MARAD vessel status card, and the 1948 scrapping contract are undigitized leads. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
