[2]DANFS, LST-642 (NHHC page returned 404 on access; cited 21 March 2021 Wayback Machine capture of the official page) [nhhc_danfs]
- Locator
- DANFS entry, full text; official page preserved in Wayback capture dated 2021-03-21
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- The official DANFS entry states that LST-642 was laid down 5 June 1944 at Seneca, Illinois, by Chicago Bridge & Iron Co.; launched 8 September 1944; sponsored by Mrs. Sylvia W. Nesbitt; commissioned 28 September 1944; served in the Asiatic-Pacific theater and participated in the assault and occupation of Iwo Jima in February and March 1945; performed occupation duty in the Far East until mid-February 1947; was decommissioned 30 June 1947; was abandoned at Barter Island, Alaska, on 10 February 1948; was struck from the Navy list on 19 February 1948; and earned one World War II battle star.

- Limitations
- The NHHC page returned 404 on 2026-10-02; the cited 21 March 2021 Wayback capture of that official page was reachable. DANFS does not document asbestos, individual exposure, or materials aboard. Its 1948 abandonment/striking dates conflict with the later ship-use and disposition sequence reported in the 1977 EPA study (ev-03); the conflict is unresolved.

- Limitations
- The list identifies a recorded log span; it is not the deck logs themselves and does not establish that every day in the span is represented or that later logs do not exist. It contains no asbestos or exposure information.

[4]Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Solid Waste on Federal Lands in Alaska: A Report to Congress (SW-639), 1977 [other_primary]

- Executive Summary Report, Arctic National Wildlife Range section, printed page 57 (web text lines 1504-1520)
- Finding type
- environmental_record
- Finding
- The 1977 report states that LST 642 sailed to Alaska in 1947 to assist with construction of the Barter Island DEW Line station; the Air Force used it as a work platform from 1953 to 1957; the Navy decommissioned it and declared it surplus in 1958; a private barge company reportedly purchased it; and in October 1963 it broke free while being towed from Barter Island and grounded about 40 miles west in Demarcation Bay. The report says machinery and usable equipment had been removed by the time of its account.

- Population
- Air Force work-platform use; later towing and grounded vessel
- Limitations
- This government report provides a later ship-use and grounding account that conflicts with DANFS's 1948 abandonment and striking dates. The report does not explain the Navy-list status or establish ownership chain after 1958; both records are retained without resolving the discrepancy. It is not an asbestos survey and does not establish asbestos presence, release, or exposure.

- Ship-specific asbestos documentation
- Limitations
- A search result of no located record does not prove asbestos was absent or present aboard. This does not establish individual exposure, material quantity, remaining material, causation, or legal eligibility. CourtListener searches were not completed because the authenticated fleet limiter declined the first request before an HTTP request; that access gap is recorded separately and is not treated as a negative result.
